Topic: Can feet "lose weight"... | |

....LENGTHWISE??
There's something awfuwwy scewy going on awound here... This is the second time in a couple of months that I've bought a new pair of shoes in my regular size that are too big for me. Well, actually, the first pair is not..but that's because I bought them new and I tried on my regular size, discovered they were too big, tried on the next half size down, still too big, then the next half size down and they fit. So I'm thinking, okay, maybe they've changed the shoe sizes so people with long feet can think they have short feet just like they put size 8 on a skirt in an expensive boutique that is really a size 12 anywhere else you could buy it, in order for "big gals" to think they're "petite." And yesterday I found some stuff at a consignment shop and bought a pair in my regular size, get them home and try them on and they're like way too big. If I wear a pair of really thick socks I might could get by with wearing them in the wintertime or something but otherwise, they'll just fall off. Since I quit drinking and smoking I've lost approximately 20 pounds...but I didn't know your feet could shrink! This has me baffled! Not that I'm complaining, mind you! ![]() |

yes.......
some peoples get bigger some smaller depends on who makes the shoe too! |

Can also be bone density loss.

Hmm...that's pretty significant bone density loss in a very short period
of time. I have no health issues that would have precipitated such a loss. |

I would say that your body is retaining less water than before, now that
you've lost weight and, I suppose, are eating better. Water retention shows IMMEDIATELY in the feet and legs. |

Sheila, I belive so....yes. I know when I lose weight, I wear a smaller
shoe. When I gain it....bigger. And, I notice that the bottoms of my feet are puffier? Thicker? Anyway, I think so. Kat |

slendercat, i can see that, in the overall foot and perhaps even in the
width of the shoe...(but just an FYI the weight loss wasn't that significant...and I wasn't anywhere near fat or obese..just a bit heavier than I am now.) I'm talking the length of my foot. I cannot see how losing weight overall can make a person's foot shorter...to the tune of a whole size and a half, within about a year's time? (That's the timeframe in which I lost most of the weight.) but we're talking right at 20 pounds since winter of '04, so it's not like it's a huge amount. I've noticed even my old tennis shoes (which is what i usually wear around here cuz i'm always either gardening or playing with my dogs) are too big for me and are not as snug as they used to be. I can put my feet into my shoe and my toes will be at the front and there's like a good half-inch of room at the back..which never happened before. So i don't know..maybe they can ...strange, very strange indeed. |
