I just sent someone the apple support website address and the phone
number for the Ipod they are having trouble with. They asking for help
in the forum and I had just got my problem repaired with my Ipod. I did
not put it in the forums, but through the email on this site, will I be
ban from this site for doing this.

I guess I am not real savvy on the rules yet...why would you be banned?

You are not to direct people to another website on the forums. I used to
belong to another site and I email someone a website address and was
ban. I just did that without thinking and was worried that I would be
ban that is the reason I asked.

My understanding of the policy here (and people please correct me if I'm
wrong) is that promoting your own website, promoting a particular
product or service, and referring to a JSH competitor are all frowned on
in the forums - but are okay in personal email (provided you aren't
spamming).

But if you are simply providing a link to help someone solve a problem,
or a link to an article that is particularly relevant to a discussion -
these things are okay even in the forums. I hope I understand that
right, because I often provide links to help people with problems or
which relate to a discussion.
