SO um..I feel for some reason that I should defend Ford...but can't find the will to do so....because Chevy is definitely better but Ford did make good cars about 50 years ago

Come down to richmond where the big boys race.

I'm not gonna say that my mustang will beat your chevy...cause I fund and build my own projects out of my Dads garage with a couple of friends.

But I can garuntee i know of a couple of Fox bodies that will show you a thing or two.

Def...thats why I honestly hate the "who's better" debate because in the end theres so many variables that it really doesnt have to do with the make of the car....but the person that built and drives it.

I drive a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT (extra-cab), and in the almost-nine years I've owned it, I've had to change out the-

- power steering pump (twice)
- steering rack (once)
- cylinder heads*
- radiator (twice)
- starter motor (three times)

and I have yet to change out the rear leaf-springs, one of which blew out an overload spring quite recently. This is funny because I haven't overloaded the hauling capacity of that truck.

So- am I a Ford man? Nope- that Ranger will probably be the LAST Ford I'll buy. I can see why they stopped using their "Quality Is Job #1" slogan of theirs... because it just isn't.

Deep inside though, I'm a Chrysler man at heart. So I'll probably get a Dodge truck if I end up replacing that Ford in the (hopefully) near future. That, or a Toyota Tundra (the newer-designed, big-ass one, that is)- I hear THAT'S a pretty mean truck. drool

*The cylinder heads on my Ranger went out because of an apparent design shortcoming of theirs- they use a principle known as "thin-wall" casting to cast up their engine blocks and heads, which is essentially a cost-cutting measure (thinner-walled parts=less metal used=less metal bought). This would be fine, except for the fact that the offending parts are SO thin in places that they fatigue prematurely and fail with the slightest amount of real use. And those engines fail quite frequently, too.

Yeah...Ford is known for getting there power from the small blocks. Put on a power adder such as a blower and watch that beast go.

Damn...I have an 02 Ranger XLT and havent had any of those problems. Almost 90,000 miles and nothing major yet.

Replaced the breaks which is common and had to replace a vaccum hose.

I tow with it and have moved 3 years straight so Ive put plenty of heavy things on it.

I had 150K miles on my S10 and only ever replaced the fuel pump (besides normal maintenance like breaks)

Replacing the fuel pump = not a fun job BTW

Turbo is actually a nice way to go now. They work great with the high torgue v-8's. You have the torque in the low gears from the v-8's and then the turbo kicks and your gone. And you can keep out of boost by not hitting high revs and save your car some wear and tear while not racing it.

yeah... might wait till im no longer the fastest thing on the road...then when someone beats me ill get it...lol... plus a supercharger fits under the hood... they wont even know... my big block makes too much noise!

Consider yourself lucky. My Ranger would give up on me the first chance it'd get if I let it. It's almost like the designers at Ford had their brains screwed on backwards when they came up with my generation of truck or something.
