Is old enough to tell a kid actually how a baby is born? I'm not talkin one day the stork came and now you have a brother. One lady told me that because my 10 year old knows which hole a baby comes out of, she has lost her innocense.

In this day and age I am sure that 10 yr old can give YOU an education that would scare the pants off of you.

JMO I dont think that she lost her innocense. I dont have a good answer as to when it is a good time to tell them about where a baby comes from, each child matures different. So it would depend on how mature a child is, as to when I would tell them.

10 y/o...? Probably has enough sex-ed from school to be able to take the shock...
And what SHE said.... Be prepared for a shock at what she knows.. IMO that is a little young though, by a couple of years at least.. |

my daughter knew by ten. we discussed the whole thing very scientically. she started her period shortly after when she was eleven.
now we mostly talk about which girls at schools are 'hoes' and how proud she is to be a virgin still. i dread the end to this phase. that will be the true end of innocenece in my eyes. |

"One lady"....
I would have taken off my shoe and thrown it at her. |

In my town they are teaching the girls about mentration in the 4th grade.
Honestly Jill it is not a bad thing to want your daughter to know these things as long as she can handle the information you are giving her. Maturity certainly has a great deal to do with any decision you may make. Good luck. |

ya, my daughter knows too much about sex.
i just asked her how she knows shes a virgin.. and she stated it very correctly, so fun fun fun she knows about bisexuals and gay people also. im amazed by the amount of friends she has that are either gay or bi or straight. I am amazed where she knows all this stuff. and Im glad that she first (i believe) got her basic education from talking to me. |

I think that is what it all comes down too, parents are the first teachers of their children. And really you want to be the one to talk to them about situations and sugject matters that are this sensitive so that you can give them the correct answers and instill your values in them as well.

It depends on the maturity level of the child. A parent should know when the child is mature enough. When they reach that age, they will let you know, they will ask! Do not ever lie to your children about anything! Simply change the subject or tell them the truth. If a very young child is insistent on asking questions about sexual subjects there is probably a reason. Not necessarily a bad one, but it could be. Some children do mature at a extremely quick rate once they learn to communicate verbally. Keep a careful watch on your children and you will not have to worry about any of this!

It is scary to think how fast children grow up these days. Being in education, I've seen kindergarteners that talk about sex and stuff like that. There's no certain age when all children should be told. If depends on each child individually, if they are mature enough to handle the information.
Parents should be the first line of communication, but unfortunately parents and/or the child is uncomfortable talking with each other. |
