I would guess that the intense fear of the human form that prevails in American culture hearken back to our puritanical Christian roots. They were around just long enough to instill that fear of human sexuality in people. That's an interesting thought. |

The reason there is less importance to nudity in Europe is because there is less hypocrisy about it. From small age less importance is given to nudity and kids get used to seeing topless on the beach as well as day to day roaming in the house. Here in USA unfortunately the atmosphere is rife with hypocrisies. For example here in Los Angeles there are more than 1500 different sects of Christianity and yet the San Fernando Valley is the biggest center of the porn production in the world. No body seems to be uncomfortable with that. I guess they would be if their daughter's were porn stars Yes, it would be very taboo in our culture for families to walk around naked in front of each other. |

We don't walk about in the house naked . What I mean is the rushing for a towel feeling embarrassed if our son walks in etc.Like the lady was explaining above.

Are Europeans more comfortable with this than Americans? I have heard this but didn't know if it was a myth or not. Yep, I think it's true. Okay, so I guess it's not a myth. I was just wondering as someone brought up in another thread how much she did not like taking her children to the mall where the Victoria's Secret posters were in plain view. That made me remember something I had heard about Europeans being less concerned about such things. |

Are Europeans more comfortable with this than Americans? I have heard this but didn't know if it was a myth or not. <-----Ask a European. Yes, more freedom over there many places, women walk topless on the beaches, it's nothing new, no ones raping anyone over it. Sex films are daily at nights in the TV (no special restrictions on any channels), overthere they censor the violence more than the beauty of the human body. |

They dont behave like giggling school children over a lingerie advertisement with a beautiful woman who's genitals are not exposed anyway. In Europe they have nudity in commercials because people dont over react. |

They seem to be much more concerned with the level of violence on tv than nudity or sex. Good to know. |

Im not talking pornographic imagery, dont misunderstand. Like I saw a commercial for sunglasses once and it showed a topless woman for like 2 seconds. No big deal. |
