Some 300,000 apply online for 7,000 jobs in Barack Obama administration

WASHINGTON - Nearly 300,000 job seekers have applied for some 7,000 available positions in the Obama administration, a transition source confirmed Friday.

Résumés from across the country are flooding a Web site set up for applicants eager to land a spot in the Obama White House or cabinet agencies.

"They want experience and expertise," said a longtime Democratic policy wonk hoping to join the administration.

The hiring model set up by President-elect Barack Obama's transition boss, John Podesta, is so demanding that even top-notch Obama campaign aides are sweating out whether a job in the administration is forthcoming.

Several ex-Hillary Clinton supporters have already locked up top jobs, angering some Obama supporters who think they deserved first crack.

Podesta is "looking at who is the best, not necessarily the most loyal," the source said. "It's the Reagan administration model: Campaign people are not the same as policy people"
