ok, so we just moved to a new house and new neighbourhood fairly recently. We moved in order to get a new start in our life and we'd like some new holiday traditions as well. So what i'm asking here is what traditions do you guys have, just so i can get some ideas (and because there are no other interesting threads going at the moment bigsmile ).
Can be traditions with your family, with your significant other or with your friends, doesnt matter.

Buy a christmas tree ornament for each year you live in the house for each person in the house

My holiday tradition is to NOT have a holiday tradition. It comes from having too many in the way of dysfunctional family holidays and crap.

LOL I always get on the tail end of things.
Hopefully you get a chance to do something unusual and fun. We started going swimming the day after Christmas and it was so much fun we kept doing it. One year we made pizza and decorated to look like a turkey. One year we whipped Ivory Snow flakes to make fake snow and made a Santa house out of a card board box. Colored elves in their color book cut them out and stuck them on the box.

Since

I was a tiny tot,

I loved to sing.

Especially at christmastime ,

I would get on the keyboard and

sing christmas carols....

while

my pa and ma and siblings,

all would gather around and

sing along.

I remember how we would laugh and sing

wayyy into the night.....

sometimes until

the wee hours of the next

morning.laugh

This became a family tradition for

years and years.....

until

ma and pa went home to be with the

Lord.

Then the singing stopped ... for

some years now.

No reason why ...

except we all just moved in

different directions.

Well.....I think its time !!!

Time,for my family and I ...

to not only get together this

christmas .....

but it's time...

to gather round that ole dusty

keyboard....

still sitting in the old family den,

and sing to our hearts content....

wayyyyy into the night

once more....laugh

just as in days gone by!!!drinker

We have the tradition that the women do all the cooking, we all eat, the women do all the dishes, then the men go and watch football. Those Lions, not so good this time. Hey don't get pissy at me, I'm not allowed in the kitchen. LOL

Another tradition:

Going to midnite mass on christmas eve....

and singing carols in this huge ole cathedral like church...which echoed out far and wide because of the high cathedral ceilings....flowerforyou

and then going home and putting on "Handell's Messiah"...and wrappin presents into the wee hours of christmas morn.

And not even mind being exhausted on christmas day, for lack of sleep!!laugh:heart:flowerforyou

I love christmas.....bigsmileblushingflowerforyou:heart:flowerforyou

the swimming after christmas idea sounds fantastic Pacific, i may just do that because we live fairly close to the beach here... hmm... mayhaps a picnic as well with leftover sunday dinner.

Getting a new ornament for each family member every year may overwhelm our poor tree after a while laugh . mayhaps just one would be nice though.

KYnewbie, i've been doing that for ages laugh last year my brand new cell phone came out of its box with a picture of the untouched presents under the tree and no one was the wiser. bigsmile

Thanx guys, and...

Some christmas ideas(not neccesarily traditions)....

putting many different colored bright flower petals on a white christmas tree, along with pink ribbons and silver icicles....nothing else....so victorian and soo beautiful.

Getting family together and driving and looking at lights and singing ...thruout december BEFORE christmas ...thus making the celebration of christmas ,not just one day only.

Christmas should be everyday in our hearts anyway...the TRUE spririt of chrsitmas , THAT IS..

Which is ALL ABOUT JESUS.....

the ONE Who Gives

TRUE

Meaning to Christmas

I got this idea from a customer one time. I get my girls new pajamas every year, and open them up on Christmas Eve, and let them wear them that night!!!
