Excellent question.I seen it many times.Never happened to meI don't know for sure. There is some disagreement over the scriptural basis for that.I can't claim to speak for the Holy Ghost, so I don't know the answer.

I have never heard anyone that was able to back it up Biblically.

Isa 28:11-13
11 For with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people, 12 To whom He said, "This is the rest with which You may cause the weary to rest," And, "This is the refreshing"; Yet they would not hear. 13 But the word of Yahweh was to them, "Precept upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little," That they might go and fall backward, and be broken And snared and caught. NKJV huh |

I had one of them preachers put their hand on my forehead one time... and push.... then he pushed again.... then pushed one more time...
... then I looked at him with this very curious look, and just said... "dude, what are you doing?" ...the lady next to me fell down..... |

Being slain in the spirit simply means
feeling God's Awesome Holy Spirit Presence Moving in a Mighty Way...... no different then from what happened at Pentacost.... when the Holy Spirit came down and everyone in the Upper Room semed to be "drunk from wine" .... yet it was still in the early part of the day. I myself, have been slain in the spirit many times... and have also experienced holy laughter and weeping in God's presence. When I pick up my guitar and sing, I am singing to God... next thing I know I feel God's presence fill the room..... and I just stop and weep before God..... simply because I feel so close to God. This can happen to anyone though, after spending time in God's Presence.... it is wonderful to feel God's Presence that way.... but it usually will Only happen when one is totally YIELDED and SURRENDERED to God's Will.... thus allowing God to have His Way.... and when one is yielded to God that way, God's Holy Spirit presence comes down.... and fills the room... and it can be quite Awesome. Basically again....being totally yielded to God's Will, allows the Holy Spirit to have His Way.... but the Holy Spirit is a gentleman.... and will never force someone to be slain in the spirit. Again..... being slain in the spirit simply comes by being totally YIELDED to God .... and Allows His Holy Spirit to have His Way in our life. And sometimes God's Holy Spirit presence can be felt very strongly, without always neccessarily being slain in the spirit every time. BUT..I will say this... if we are walking with one foot in the world and one foot with God, don't expect to feel close to God.... and therefore, don't expect to be slain in the spirit either (that may be why some have not yet experienced this )..... cause ony total Yieldednes brings about this kind of experience. I have even seen people in charismatic catholic churches, as well as people in pentacostal churches slain in the spirit..... so this is not just limited to some folks only..but is for all.... it is a real experience... but I think also, a lot of people "fall" out under the spirit .... and they aren't being slain in the spirit at all... but are just falling because the ones next to them are falling..... but that is not what being slain in the spirit is about at all. Once more..... being slain in the spirit only comes from total yieldedness and surrender to God's Will in our lives..... and comes by allowing the Holy Spirit to have His Way...... it comes when hearts are obedient and desiring God with all that is within us... and when we do, then God can move in ways in our lives, that we never even dreamed could happen. There is no Greater Joy that comes then when we are Abiding in God.... and Wanting to Do His Will. Joy Unspeakable .... when we are walking in that kind of close relationship with God. And it it for everyone......not just some. But for Everyone. It is like a mountaintop experience..... but also can be felt in the valley below. It's a Relationship. Never ending Relationship With God Almighty. And if all people only knew what a deep abiding relationship with God could be like... if only everyone knew... everyone would not hesitate to coming running to God.... with their whole heart. Wondeful Joy . Joy Unspeakable...is All I can Say.... When One is in God's Presence like that. What a Wonderful Jesus... What a Wonderful Saviour..... What an Awesome God. Amen!!!! .....Be Blessed Everyone Now.... Have a Beautiful Sunday in the Lord (((((((((((Hugs from the Heart))))))))))) |

.........Breathe...........
"This is the air I breathe This is the air I breathe Your holy presence living in me This is my daily bread This is my daily bread Your very word spoken to me And I, I'm desperate for you And I, I'm lost without you This is the air I breathe" |

No one is recorded in the Bible falling backwards when healed. or passing out.
Whenever a miracle happens they fall on thier face and weep and praise Yahweh. More of the passage.. Isa 28:14-15 14 Therefore hear the word of Yahweh, you scornful men, Who rule this people who are in Jerusalem, 15 Because you have said, "We have made a covenant with death, And with Sheol we are in agreement. When the overflowing scourge passes through, It will not come to us, For we have made lies our refuge, And under falsehood we have hidden ourselves." NKJV |

Morning Song, people of all religions have had overwhelming emotional responses from contact with Deity. It is not an experience limited to Christians. What it looks like to an observer on the outside may differ, but the emotional response is not uncommon.
But, back to the op. I guess we pretty much all agree that what Christians refer to today as "slain in the spirit" (and I'm only going by what I have seen on the Christian television) is not something that ocurred anywhere in the Bible. |

Slain in Spirit have heard the term.
I guess I'm a little strange...lol I spoke with a tongues as a child... didn't know what a tongue was at the time... then prophesied about a event that later came true. At the time just read a children's bible a little bit. We use to go to a Baptist church learned a little about Jesus. Would hear the Lords voice periodically. (still do) Periodically would be given knowledge about events prior to them happening... Died once due to heart issues, didn't know much about the Bible.. Was accused by satan, but saved by the Lord Jesus Christ. Two prophets stood with the Lord. (interesting) Was shown a few things later found to be true in scripture. Later in years went to a Holiness church went up for prayer, and was barely touched, and hit the ground. (didn't expect that...lol) Have been given visions of events.... Wars, earthquakes, knowledge of people dying prior to events. Had a brief vision of Calvary... came out of the vision felt like I was being breath on..., and fell on my face crying. All in all I'm simply a man, sinner, saved by the Grace of Christ Jesus. |

The Scriptures does not use the term "slain in the spirit" just as it does not use the word "trinity" or "rapture". It does say "crucify your flesh" "die to self"..
Slain in the spirit is a phrase or term people uses to explain a supernatural experience beyond their control that they have with the Almighty. Mostly an experience that humbles their prideful selves. In any case noted accounts of healings in the scripture does not entail people being wacked on the foreheads and falling over backwards when in the presence of Holy Spirit.Yahushua simply commanded the sickness to leave and it left. In demonic deliverances it is noted in scripture people convuslse, have spontaneous utterances, falling or throwing themselves into something. If a person falls backwards and start shaking, twisting, convulsing, screaming, etc beyond their control it more than likely demonic and satan is present. |
