So I have a co worker who is going through some rough times and she went to her "local islamic court" to seek a "islamic" divorce due to abuse and other things. She was told to hush up pretty much and her husband was to take anger issue classes again (2nd time now). I know other religion and culture have these unoffical courts to. But is that legal in the U.S. even? Looking for help for my friend....

It is legal.. As far as being able to tell a convert if they can or not by religious law. They can not stop a divorce through secular means. But then the religious court could rule she or they are to be shunned. Or asked to leave the group. Shalom ...Miles

which would be the complaining Party.
