Okay, I know it's a little early, but we are getting some snow around the country. Any NJ/NY/Eastern PA skiers out there? I'm always looking for someone to ski with.

i am! im planning my fams new year ski trip. any place in the ny area that has a good family environment and decent package deals? help me out.

Depends on what you're looking for. Lake Placid has lots of stuff besides skiing. You can buy Olympic passes for 5 days or so that give you access to all the venues: Whiteface for skiing, the ski jump, toboggan run, ice skating rink, etc. Gore which is not too far from Placid may be a little less expensive & has good trails. Hunter is close to NYC, but gets crowded & isn't cheap.

Depends on what you're looking to ski. If i were you i'd say ditch whiteface, and just head to Jay peak in VT... It probably has some of the best tree skiing in/on the east coast as far as i'm concerned. I'm actually planning on going back out to colorado for a few weeks to ski copper/steam boat/ winter park. When i was working at copper i got free passes, and I still know people. I personally prefer tremblant myself as opposed to white face, they have skier X races frequently, and it's right in montreal, so there's always something going on. As far as skiing white face, it's cool but you tend to get a lot of tourons(Tourist/moron combo), it's like the Vail of new york. I still see alot of the neon green onsies, and old school oakley goggles, and I LOVE THEM!! I'm trying to hunt down a set. But yeah, whiteface's terrain is pretty top notch for the ice coast. The food prices are extraordinarily{sp?} outrageous, for any mountain i've been at. But, I guess that's allowed because they've held the olympics two times?

If you interested, there's a place called platekille which is fairly amazing as well, skiing there remind me alot of skinng outwest, you get those sweet powder stashes, and cliff drops in certain areas. prices aren't too bad either.

I agree Jay Peak is good for the East. Whiteface is the best in NY, I think, but I've never tried Platekille. I try to stay away from the 'designer' ski areas too, but in NY there are few places that aren't crowded & full of those 'tourons'. Mt Ste Anne, just north of Quebec,is nice too. I ski PA when I can't get out west 'cause it's less crowded & fewer idiots, but the vertical is less than the bigger NY mountains.

Yeah, for sure. I like tremblant as I said. Next year i'm should have my points north heli trip paid off, and i'm wayyy excited. As far as skiing though in the US nothing beats the rockies(of course). Copper is my favorite place, with free snow cat access to the Tucker back bowl, and an amazing super pipe, with really laid back staff. Ticket prices are rather cheap, about $75.00, which isn't much considering you're getting the chance to have snow cat access as well.(Usually $125.00 per run), and they have a nice village too. Endos adrenaline cafe` has about the most amazing nachos ever made. As far as where i like to ski, i keep it small with dry hill, labrador, and snow ridge. DH is my home hill, 300 vertical feet, but all quality riders.

My favorite place is Heavenly...not the best snow, but it is really one of the most beautiful places on earth, Ski around 1 bend & see the lake through the snow-covered trees, next bend pink & purple painted desert....can't beat the views.

yeah, for sure. When I was in colorado, I generally stuck to the back country. waist deep powder 5 days a week, snowmobile access. It's always nice. only thing you need to watch for are avalanches. I took my safety course, so I was pretty excited, but regardless, nothing prepares you.

We went to McCall, Idaho a few years back for 7 days & it snowed for all but a few hrs in the whole week! Tons of powder which my snowboarding kids loved. Me. I like nice groomed trails.

Think we're the only skiers on here?

I think, just maybe. I used to like the groomers, and park. But after living in CO for four years I became a total powder hound. Jackson hole has to be one of my favorites, or Mt baker? i've been to too many places, and they're all fantastic in their own way.

hah 3oh3, you like the group 3 OH! 3 by any chance? Yeah, i like breck, except it's pretty much nothing but gapers... The same thing with Vail, steam boat, and keystone. That's why I stuck to copper, loveland, and a-basin. Plus copper has free snow cat access to tucker back bowl. I have to say, I love a 51 @ keystone, but i think Dark territory at winterpark is better. As far as half pipes are concerned, breck is deff the best I think. But I didn't move outwest to ride park, I spent almost 140 days last year in the back country, skiing waist deep powder.

I've only been skiing once. I want to try it again, though.

3oh!3 Rules!! I'm not much of a winter park fan, but I do love me some copper and keystone. I shattered my right collar bone at keystone a couple years ago. A-basin is ok, and loveland isn't my fave either. Oh well, I love skiing no matter where I am!
