Did she say specifically what she thought you would not be able to do? I don't think I would let this one slide. You will likely not get a job there, but not even being allowed to fill out the application is just ludicrous. Someone dropped the ball BIG TIME. Only you can decide if this is a battle worth waging war over. Is that even allowed? I thought all these places had to be wheelchair-friendly. You can't actually openly discriminate against the handicapped with stuff like that, surely? A ramp should, by rights, be a requirement, not an option. |

If you all would quit skipping over my replies...the only thing 7-11 has to do to accomidate the handicap is allow parking and a walk up the curb in the parking lot, the job requirements themselves do imply the neccesity to stand and lift. Again not impossible, but very difficult for someone in a wheelchair. |

Only you can decide if this is a battle worth waging war over. It's not only that, you have to be able to lift 40 pounds. There is a lot more to 7/11 than you think, we have to count every cigarette pack, stock the cooler daily and the liqour and beer if it applies to the store. There is a lot that someone in a wheelchair would have difficulty with doing, not impossible but very difficult. ![]() ![]() |

doesn't seem fair, really.
I guess the world can just be a ***** sometimes. |

The thing is......they can't really deny a person in applying for a job just because they APPEAR to not be able. How can they say just with a glance that she isn't able to get up out of the wheelchair to perform the tasks of the job? She wasn't even given the opportunity to interview and talk to someone about the job description and her own abilities. It was discrimination. And only the OP can decide if it's something worth pursuing legally or personally. I totally understand what your saying about the job duties, and it can't be expected that someone else get all the heavy work. |

I went to my local 7/11 today and they had a sign on the door that they are hiring. Went in, asked the Manager for an application and get a load of this. She wouldn't give me one because I'M IN A WHEELCHAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I find it outragious that one of the biggest contributors to "Jerry's Kids", won't hire "Jerry's Kids"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I smell a lawsuit. And then to top it all off. I was stood up for a date today with someone I met on here. ![]() Before I get into trouble, let me make it clear to everyone i'm not trying to get sympathy. Just letting everyone know how much you can't trust humans. I give up. I'm done ![]() I work at 7/11...next time if you get guff like that ask to speak with the Field Consultant (this is the higher up from the manager), if that fails you can get ahold of corprate because it is blatantly discrimination. The Field Consultant will be able to give you an explanation or even a interview! |

Look: http://www.7-eleven.com/Careers/SalesAssociate/tabid/143/Default.aspx specifically requirements. This is like me going to apply for an attorney job without meeting the requirements of the Bar exam...they won't give me the job because I don't fulfill the requirements, and then me taking it to court because they discriminated on my education...same thing, no deal. |

You know what? Go ahead and waste your money on an attorney to represent you in a case, come back and inform us how far you went with it...

![]() ![]() http://www.7-eleven.com/Careers/SalesAssociate/tabid/143/Default.aspx Read, learn, be well. It is a requirement to stand for lengthy amounts of time, the inability to do so disqualifies one from the job. |

Your just beating a dead horse at this point but do whatever makes you happy. If I didn't I wouldn't apply for a job which I couldn't do...she is going to lose the case, she will throw a lot of money away in the process. Look up the laws for Colorado yourself, or check the post in the general section...she cannot win this case. You go ahead and encourage her to lose money though, I don't care. |

With all do respect with the OP, you come one the forums complaining about a situation, granted nothing wrong with that at all, but you NEED to understand that you are going to get replies that you do not like. And yes sometimes the truth hurts. Why would you not listen to somebody that actually works for the company? I mean why would he lie? He is just simply trying to tell you that you are fighting a losing battle.
SO are you out here looking for help or sympathy? |
