Hey all,
A question for any of those who walk the pagan path. I am just learning to become Pagan, I have always had an interest. Having Native in my bloodline, I find it so similiar in many ways. Heres the deal....now I have just gone out today in fact and bought a book called: Paganism by*Joyce & River Higginbotham...I hope it will be informative for any questions, but ok back to my question (sorry gettin carried away with excitement...hehe) What kind of an Alter should I have for Samhain? I would appreciate any help so I can plan getting things ready.

Im new to the online dating things, and I was aghast at the drop down menu of religion, I was hoping that I was going to be able to fill in the blank....the closest I could come was 'other.' I dont know that I would call myself any particular religion, I prefer to scrape bits o' knowledge from lots of different sources, still it all together, let it simmer and call it my own. First of all, welcome to the thread! As to your question about altars, there are no rules about what kind to have. It's a completely personal decision and has to do mainly with what you are going to use it for. Since there are so many possibilities here I will tell you about mine.

On my everyday altar (I set up a different altar for ritual)that I have set up all the time I have a Goddess candle. I burn black, red or white depending on the moon phase. I have some salt, crystals, sea shells, a pentacle, a small picture of the Triple Goddess, a large picture of Hecate, a small cauldron and my Goddess ring. At Mabon I added some miniature pumpkins. I will usually add "decorations" to it that change with the seasons.

Again, altars are very personal things and there is no "wrong" way to do it. It really depends on the purpose of the particular altar as to how you will set it up.

I'm actually not offended when people do that because I understand. If your personal beliefs are 100% opposed to someone else's than that's just the way it is. I also get very nice email from people telling me they hope I find Christ.

You didn't strike me as the type person who would get offended. I know some would cause, let's face it, religion is a touchy topic nowadays...especially with all the types of religion we have out their.

I bet get hated on more than you cause I AM a believer in Christ and yet I have made it very known my problems that the "Church" has. Christians don't like it when one of their own calls out the church. Sad to say, their are way too many hypocrites in the Church.

Anyways, I actually love learning about other peoples beliefs and religions. It fascinates me.

There is in-fighting within all religions. The Pagan community here is very divided and it can very ugly sometimes. I just try and stay out of it. But, it can be frustrating when you realize what a bad impression it makes on the rest of the community.

John: "Ummmmm....I have to disagree Bob. We all talked and we feel that Todd makes a better victim this week."

This is another book for beginners or people that just want to see what this is all about. Its an interesting one because it deals specifically with the solitary practitioner.
