And than he smiled
In my ebony hours, I have seen no beauty, I have seen no true light I have known no true love I have known no peaceful night I have known no truly good woman I have known no truly good man I have seen no angels Yet devils, so many, and so little this world can stand In my ebony hours, I have seen no saint I have seen no God I have seen only the images of what love is I have seen no war that could heal my inner nation I have seen no child without some form of starvation I have seen no soul left in this old world I have seen it die and curl up and again unfurl I have seen through the tears in my eyes that darkest night I have seen the death of my soul tonight I have seen the loss of that last sweetest blessing I have seen, Yes I have seen, But now there is one thing I remember And one thing alone I remember a smile From a man with blue eyes A single smile Yes, only one He gave it to me And it is what I will take with me till the end of my days I’ll take it with me to light my way A single smile that gave my aching heart what it longed for A thirsty mind will drink it always As my hand rested there on his face He smiled at me With such radiant grace It may have only been for a moment There may have not even been a good thought behind it I may never truly know why it pleased me so But I know That smile Will be with me when I go One touch of grace, one touch for me When the darkness falls And there is nothing left for me to see I have…one…smile… with me |

Wow. This is (did I say, Wow?) I like the wallow and the self-exit from the muck, so to speak.
