Given Promise

I could take you to a mountain top
And give the world to you,
But I'm sure that's not your way
Or what I should really do.

I could take you to a shoreline
And give you all the sea
But then you'd surely doubt me dear
And maybe you would flee.

I thought that I could buy you
The finest jewels and gold
But then you see right through
And then you I couldn't hold.

I pondered just a moment
And thought for many days,
I remembered your sweet heart, my dear,
And thought what you would say.

Then I got this basket
And filled it with some things.
I added just two candlesticks
Before we went away.

As I spread the blanket
And bid my darling sit,
I give you just an empty box
And get the candles lit.

Take the fears we have right now
And place them all inside,
Even all those nasty ones
That tend to run and hide.

Now take those words that hurt us dear
And pack the tears we've cried,
Yes pack our darkest memories
And all of any lies.

Now our box is full

Let me dig a hole,

Reaching to the basket,

As I uncork a bottle
And pour us a taste of wine.

The candlelight within your eyes
