I went to school with this kid.
Should he be forced to take it down?

First it doesn't even look like Palin to me, it looks like Dana Carvey's SNL character, The Church Lady...

1st amendment.

understood.
BUT, if he were a conservative and it were Mr Obama hanging from that noose...? How long do you think before it came down?

It's already happened. It received a lot less attention. The city leaders condemned it, but the guy was not forced to take it down. He later took it down of his own accord.

What if it were a mock up of McCains torture?

1st amendment is supposed to protect unpopular speech. This isn't a race thing, it's not even a "I want to see Palin die" thing.

And due to her obvious talents as it pertains to interviews, her pretend hockey mom crap at walmart followed by 150,000 tax dollars going into her closet, has she not figuratively tied a noose around the McCain/Palin campaign?

As far as it goes with the noose thing being Obama, it would walk a fine line, because of what the history of this country is, but what if it's just a halloween thing?

Yes. I think it would be horrible for children to see.

They're all pretty ****ed up. I mean, there are certain ones that carry a greater threat because of historical context--such as lynching an Obama effigy as above, or a more gendered attack on a Palin effigy. I don't really think that a McCain torture effigy would be on the same level of those because it doesn't have the context of being attacked on a characteristic that involves a history of oppression and doesn't carry a threat towards an entire group of people...but it would still be amazingly, amazingly messed up and in bad taste.

Basically, people who make effigies are assholes.

I'm surprised it received less attention.

What part of hanging someone (anyone) is a peaceful demonstration?

Ugh, of course this crap goes down in my neck of the woods slaphead

Whether it's meant to be symbolic or is just plain hateful it was done in very poor taste and is totally unnecessary.
