"Human resources assistant wanted" the advert shouted
"Decent wage,smart uniform" it further touted
Feeling confident I applied for the job
a few days later got a call from Bob
He asked me lots of knowing questions
My name,my age,the extent of my qualifications
Upon hearing my surname Bob went into a spin
"Nice Scottish name" I could almost hear his grin
"Would you mind coming in for an interview,
just so you could get a better perspective of what we do"
Interview day I sat with other hopefuls
I'll get this job, I was not doubtful
One by one the applicants were called in
I was last,I'm sure they told me come
at ten.
Finally, the secretary called my name
"So glad you came Miss..........His words trailed away
The shock on his face,just made my day
His face turned white,then red,then white again
I'm sure he wasn't having a cardiac because of the tone of my skin
"But,you're......." Black" I finished his sentence
Couldn't have "my sort" here,to Bob and his team it made sense
With my certificates I walked away
Didn't get the job needless to say
I think somewhere along the line Bob forgot
His ad should have said........"Wanted, assistant BIGOT!!!

I pondered about posting this poem here, I have so many friends from all walks of life here on this forum, this is in no way directed to any one of you. I am merely expressing a circumstance as it happened. I have learnt to deal with having a "White" surname (both my maiden and married names are) I am happy to say, I do not get this happening to me so much now.....

When we look back we can laugh at something that is so hateful and cuts to the core.

My last husband's name was Charlie Daniels, very popular person in the US has that name. We got a lot of mileage out O f it in Las Vegas, and would laugh ourselves silly as we were ushered to free VIP seat and such.
