im thinking of getting into a krav maga program and want to know if the training i already have would interfere or would it be benefical in the long run.

Nah, the techniques are somewhat similar to Muay Thai but its actually much more brutal in practice and grappling is also part of it.

The thing is, Krav Maga is designed for lethal life-or-death real world situations and is not...I repeat NOT a sport. Those Israelis aren't fackin around.

exactly. thats why im intrested in it. i dont want someone lobbing a punch at me and if i block something my deaf blind senile dead uncle would block and think that its really teaching me to defend myself. shotokan is the main basis i already have and its a rough style, and its also very hard to find in my area. so im thinking switch to k/m

i went to a couple krav classes in columbus, kinda like muay thai, more for defending people with knives and guns, kind of like if you mixed muay thai with a dissarming class. imo it was fun but i liked muay thai better

i did thai for a while,, and my bones aint like they used to be. 12 years of martial arts and years of football have taken their toll. i want something hard, but not brutal

Pros: Great close-range striking and grappling. Cons: No ground fighting

It's good when supplemented with BJJ or similar.

If you are in NC, CKM is a great school.

I did a boot camp once in Raleigh and was pretty impressed with their approach.

Also, I agree 100% KM is not a sport...80% of their techniques can not be used on professional MMA fighting. So just put everything on the balance.

Good luck man.

Sure! that's Jay Culbreth's place right? The "twister"? ha ha Rough indeed...if you are cool with the ground game then give KM a try...my only issue (I guess like with any other martial art) is that it changes SO MUCH from one school to another, so just take your time until you find some place that matches 100% with what you are looking for...

Cheers
