You hear SO much during every election - local to federal - about all the mudslinging between opposing sides, and how that buries or pushes aside the real issues. I agree that it's exhausting, to say the least.
However, if you do some research, you'll see that, unfortunately, serious election year mudslinging in the USA goes back at least as far as the Presidential election of 1800. It sucks, but it's a "good"* ol' American tradition, and it's probably not going to go away. *and I mean "good" sarcastically |

Ah, it's not limited to the U.S., my friend! It's the same in the U.K. and all over.. only thing is, I think they are getting wise to the fact that more voters are getting wise to them, if you get me.
I'm always suspicious of politicians, but particularly suspicious of politicians who'd rather speak about their opponents bad points than their own good ones. R.P. for prez! ;P |

So very true. I was watching a PBS documentary on Andrew Jackson the other day (which was really good and incredibly ironic given the current state of our government, finances, etc). The mudslinging that went on then, pretty much the same as now. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

it goes with the territory, in politics. and it think it deters many good people from running. the dirt digging industry is so prevalent that anyone with any kind of a stain in their past is prevented from running for anything as a result all we have to choose from are a bunch of people who never did anything to push the envelope |
