Lumpy The Pumpkin He grew amongst the others But he was more unusual they say, His name is Lumpy the pumpkin Soon it would come the day. When farmer O'Dell would go pick The pumpkins in the patch, Lumpy felt so out of place He didn't even match. He didn't look like the others Who were perfectly smooth and round, He was afraid farmer O'Dell Would just leave him laying around. When he saw farmer O'Dell Come looking where he lay, He leaned back to cover his lumps In a sneaky kind of way. He was picked off the ground And put with the others on the truck, All all the other pumpkins cheered him on And wished him the best of luck. For he was going to market To be sold for Halloween, He was going to be the proudest pumpkin Anyone's ever seen. All the other pumpkins were picked over As they were bought and sold, Soon the evening sun will set And in will come the cold. Only a few more pumpkins left to choose With Lumpy being one, Then a smiling little face came along "That one looks like fun." Lumpy was picked up by farmer O'Dell And put in the young child's lap, "He looks like a misfit like me," As the little boy fixed his cap. As his mother pushed his wheelchair SHe noticed his big smile, Little did they know about Lumpy For he was just a little guile. Yes, Lumpy may have been a misfit And felt he didn't belong, But when this little tyke came by Boy, was he wrong. Even misfits have a place in this world In a place of misdirection, People just have to reminded They too can pass for perfection. |
