I think it is just ones choice as to wether they will choose to live a good life or an evil one. To accept Christ or reject Christ, it is our choice. If, one does accept Christ, then there are standards and rules if you will on living that one should try to follow. No one is perfect and temptation is a day to day struggle.
Perhaps another example would be the two thieves crucified with Jesus, One repented and asked Christ for forgiveness, the other rejected Christ and scorned him, free choice, free will, nothing was forced, simply personal decisions made by each person.
