I wish to twist your heartbreak
into another form. You melted away into clay for him, and now that he’s gone, you remain only as the earthy scent of dirt after the rain. The clothes you wore before him do not fit, but nor do the clothes you wore with him, the ones stained with drops of his indifference. You are naked and afraid to tend to your soil again, to plant weeds or flowers, to cultivate or accept nourishment, to water the thirst you deny burns your throat. I wish to write you whole again, friend. To grow with you gardens of color and wit, to leave you inviting neighbors inside to share in the cool breeze of your glory. |
