Actually, I have this theory. If you look at the 1950's intellectual misfits, sitting in the coffee houses, discussing alternative art, music, poetry, theatre, fashion, discussing politics, social issues and not being sheep and then you look at the current goth community (not the teens that hate the world and think that means goth) you will see a group of artistic, intellectual misfits discussing alternative art, music, poetry, theatre, and fashion while discussing politics, social issues, and not being sheep.

It is just another incarnation of a group that has always been there that shifts and changes a bit with every decade.

The general topics don't change. Just the specifics.

Oddly enough, the color of choice for clothing doesn't change.

Just the sound and the style is the only thing that has really changed.

My mother always told me she thought I was born at the wrong time and that she thought I should have been a beatnik.

The "kids" you are refering to in the beginning of the first paragraph are called emo kids.

No, the group I was refering is too angry to be Emo. And predates Emo. Emo is the world hates me so I'm so depressed, therefore I am going to sit alone and write depressing songs.

Aside from that, the Emo look it totally cute.
