How it works: A political party, campaign or group sends “do not forward” mail to registered voters. If the mail is returned as undeliverable, operatives use it to challenge the voter’s registration. Courts find the method not foolproof, and not legal.

Alleged incidents: Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania in 2004

Foreclosure rolls
How it works: If your house has been foreclosed, operatives may attempt to use it to contend you no longer meet residency requirements.

Alleged incidents: Michigan and Ohio this year
Felon lists
How it works: A number of states prohibit convicted felons from voting, but in some cases legal voters were knocked off voter rolls because lists of felons were filled with errors.

Alleged incident: Florida in 2000
Misinformation and scare tactics

How it works: Voters receive flyers or calls telling them that their voting place has moved, or the day of the election has changed. Voters warned they could be arrested at the voting booth.

Incidents: Wisconsin, Florida and Arizona in 2004; Virginia in 2006

Preventing voters from getting to the polls
How it works: Political thugs puncture the tires of vehicles transporting voters to the polls. Parties or operatives hire telemarketers to jam phone banks that are calling voters to offer rides to polls.

I know plenty of people who think, whether rightly or not, that the vote is fixed and the next president has already been selected.

Perhaps that is true.

Honestly, it wouldn't take a large scale effort to do it. A few key manipulations could tip the balance easily.

This is why a verifiable uniform system is increasingly important.

I agree about a varifiable uniform system but dought if it will ever happen.

people will still say they are being disenfranchised.
in reference voter id's here. repubs wanted to have a mobile unit that would go to communities to give people id's who wanted them but it got shot down because the dems said it was targeting certain races and trying to round up criminals.

I agree if all people voted, then we would not have to worry about these scams! To me, that is the bigger issue!

As I said in another post I was removed from the rolls here in MI and I have never been able to get a full explanation.
