hendrix puts jimi page to shame

I understand why you would say this, i kinda feel the same in a way, but if you listen to Page play it was mostly faultless, but if you listen to Hendrix closely you can spot many mistakes. Thats mainly due to the complexity of what he was doing and the fact he was making up a lot what he was playing on the spot.

You cant really compare them, they are just different.

so true. there was a big difference in the way the music was edited, too. when i listen to Jimi with headphones on, you can hear the mistakes. i've even heard him clearing his throat.

nice picture.laugh laugh shocked

Thanks!

And the other important factor is that many of his tracks were actually released after he died and were not finished. A lot of his music was really just him jamming, rather than properly finished peices.

you said it. someone was listening to Jimi and said, "man, that's like heavy metal falling from the sky." that's where we got that saying.

I love that bigsmile how a whole genre was named (or invented) just from one guy's unique playing style - though I bet there was acid involved lol

jimi cut his forhead open and put acid on it. he covered it with a bandanna. for the short time in the spotlight, he inspired millions of musicians. he was in the spotlight for just under 5 years from october 15 1965 til his tragic death on september 18 1970. he was only 27 when he died. he played with his left hand, his teeth. he created many signature sounds. his music was revolutionary. sorry jimmy page cant hold a match to jimi hendrix. jimmy paige is a superb guitarist in his own right.

i think hendrix was a more skilled and cleaner player. in concert page was just to sloopy, even though the both of them were so f***ed up,hendrix was cleaner.

shades  both were great Page and Hendrix both were innovators in different ways. Hendrix was the first to explore the possibly of sounds can be made on the Stratocaster and first to use temolo bar to make bomb dives as such. Jimmy Page learned his trade by playing with the Yardbirds, and being a studio musican to innovate on stage and in the studio. Page was best studio musicain at the time. Page may of been sloppy on guitar solos but overall Page was well versed in lots of different musical ideas, and was great improvisor on stage at times.

Ive been thinking about this one and i have tried to look at all the angles. I thought it was close at one point, but really Jimi wins it by a few miles. He was more innovative, more original, better live, more charismatic. Page is outstanding, just Jimi was better in most respects.

In all fairness you need to compare them both by pages younger days (before the heroine F...ed him up) because Hendrix died young (still in his prime) before the drugs affected his playing. Pages earlier performances were just as good as his and maybe better in some aspects. Page was inovated too, he broke alot of new ground in the studio, and on stage. I still say you can't pick one or the other

How can you say that Hendrix's guitar kept going out of tune from the none existance of the locking nut!!! ( which he helped to refine ) Both had their good moments and their bad moments!!!And i've seen hendrix so sloopy you couldn't even tell what song he was playing (drugs and drink)

My vinyl collection has Hendrix in it. I have no Page at all.
