Topic: How Long Does It Take For You . . . | |
---|---|
. . . to get over a love lost?
Some bounce right back. Some never get over it. What's healthy and what's yours? I function well at 3 months, reminisce at 6, but never really get OVER it to the point that I never have a regret. But then again, I . . . |

It is different with each one all depends how much was really there I guess sometimes you will always wonder.
But regret never for to me each love was there for a reason learn from it and move on. At times we must learn that it just was not meant to be and learn to move on. But one should never have regrets deal with the hurt and learn to move on realizing it was not meant to be or it would still be there. |

I don't bounce well. It usually takes me about a year to get over it, & another 6 months to a year to be interested in trying again.

It depends on the "love" - how deep the feelings and whether it was love, or being "IN LOVE". I love quickly and easily and those relationships have typically ended in good friendships. However, the couple of times I have actually been "in love", it took a long time to get over and I was incapable of maintaining friendships.

I blink and I am over it.

Of course it's human nature to move on but if it was the love of my life, I'd have to say NEVER.

It really depends on my feelings for the person and how long we were together. If it's very early on it will take 2 to 3 weeks. But I work very hard on it....I distract myself with other things.

Too many different factors to gauge recovery.
It depends on what made the relationship end. It depends upon who ended it and how. It depends upon if it was an angry ending or a defeated ending. Just too much to factor in to getting over a love lost. |

Great comments.
One thing all seem to have in common - not this post buy emails - is "get distracted." Just don't think that's getting over it though - that's more like getting through it. Just wish I could do the "blink" thing right now. |

i just wish humans were like the mammals we are, mate and then go on without any strings attached or feelings hurt, but yet we can some just refuse to and wait for time to fix things.

I don't want to be distracted, I want to think about what went wrong & what was right, to learn more about what I need & what I need to change. I want to be sure I make amends if I was hurtful, or recover if I was hurt, so I don't act it out with someone else.

I think everyone is different..........and each relationship is different within that one person.
I'm not sure that you ever "get over" it..... For me it will always mean something to me, and I will continue to "love". It is like tucking something away for safekeeping. I choose not to REGRET, though. Everything in life is a possible lesson learned. If I had never experienced it I would not have learned about myself/others. Even the pain has taught me something about life. I think it is easier to "deal" with a breakup when you know why the breakdown occured. It is harder when someone just "ups" and decides they don't want to be with you anymore.......and then completely cuts you off..........but that is me. Just try to keep in mind that everything changes. EVERYTHING. Some relationships last a lifetime........but they still change and evolve through life. Few people fall in love and marry the first person they were ever romantically involved with......let alone stay with them forever...... I think too many idealize the marraiges of those who've been married for twenty years.....when those people may have been with four people before they found the one they married.........but anyhoo. lol, all things change. When someone leaves, they may blame it on u, but ultimately it was something they NEEDED to do for themselves............can you regret that or deny someone of it?? |

However long it takes me to find someone else. That may sound shallow but it's true.

..define "get over" ?
Maybe I'm just an oddball, but I never seem to really "get over" people that I've cared for in my life. Each one of them left their mark on me that will never disappear. I imagine if a guy I dated in high school suddenly walked into the room, my heart would probaly skip a beat and my stomach do a flip-flop..doesn't that happen to everyone? That's not to say, that I would run right over and try to rekindle. Relationships end for a reason, and I'm good with forgiveness..never forget. (All this aside from currently being in a relationship..i'm just talking hypothetical here) There are all types of variants in how long it can take to move on from a relationship though, as well as varying degrees of grief...as with death..there is sorrow, and anger, and finally..thankfully, but only after the other emotions have had their chance..acceptance. My ex and I were together for 12 years, married for 10 of them...its been umm 3 and a half years since the split and I still struggle. I think I've been through all the stages, yes..even acceptance..although because I have children, I get to live through the stages over and over again. What tells me I'm "over" that relationship, is that I've found that I'm able to love again..and I'm dreaming of a future..and the ex...is nowhere in it. |

i just wish humans were like the mammals we are, mate and then go on without any strings attached or feelings hurt, but yet we can some just refuse to and wait for time to fix things. Maybe because we are not "just" animals....... Don't get me wrong.......I can see someone having "sex" with no strings attached, but sex does not equate love. Though true love has no strings attached either........... We are emotional beings...........sorry but it is a matter of fact..... To have relationships based on how animals do it, is ridiculous......they have sex with whatever (including pillows) is available at the time.......sex is an intimate thing. I mean, maybe not so much for men, but do you realize that part of another's body actually enters the female?? I mean........you are inside of her...........but anyhoo. You/we/humans are actually more like animals than you think in the sense that MOST people are with someone for as long as they get what they want from them........and then they move on. The other person may not have been done "getting" and that is where the problem is. I do believe that we would be better off if we learned that we don't need others to make us happy. That others add things to our lives, and even when they are gone, those things are still there. That once touched by someone........that person will forever be a part of you.......... But, anyhoo. |

Just wish I could do the "blink" thing right now. Think about it do you really want that for if it was that easy it means there was no real feelings there or that your heart has turned cold. Just give it time, you may at times always think about another at times but I hope it is for something they made you feel and not in anger. |

That depends on how the relationship ended. If it ended nasty, then it doesn't take long, no sense in dwelling. If it was mutual, then probably a little longer, hurt hangs on too often abd love doesn't fade
