ever heard of "columbia river orienteering club"? wow that is fun i did it when i did girl scouts with my daughters.... its like a hiking race and you have to have a compus and find the flags they have hidden in the woods.. look it up online... they have short distance and longer distance less experienced and more experienced....you dont have to be a club member to participate and try it out.... only like a few dollars too! i think when i went it was 2 bucks lol but that was like 8 yrs ago.. its like hiking with a twist.. really fun! they give you a map and a compus and you go in the woods to find the "flags" and punch your card each flag has a different punch then u get to the finish line and give you your time some people jog it some hike it...different maps for different experiences i believe there were 3.. beginner.. advanced and expert... kinda like finding a treasure lol id like to do that again but beginner lol... im definately not a jogger but u maybe... check it out

Gosh that does sound like a lot of fun, never heard of that group. My knee sometimes bothers me also, used to jog (35 miles + a week) but gave that up a long time ago, hiking is about it for me that and bike-riding. Used to belong to a hiking group in Boulder, CO. Was so much fun, hiking with a group. Thanks for the info.
