The idea of using military for sentence for criminals was part of the
troop prob. in southeast asia.

Several countries require 2-3yrs service to your country.
Doesn't mean soldiering, but low paying, discipline & character building
work.

Think we should look at this.

The idea that undisciplined, criminals can make good soldiers is as
ludicrous as to think every soldier thinks the same as army-doc.
Go to the web site, please, before you assume that all soldiers are as
naive and war mongering, blood thirsty as he suggests.
To hear this coming from an Army medic, although interesting as it is,
is also disturbing. What is going on in the military ,today, that medics
(non combatants), are so anxious to kill or see killed, and when did
they start assigning medics to a sniper team? Isn't it kind of self
defeating to attach a team to snipers when stealth is their #1 weapon?
I'm confused about that.
As an ex-infantry soldier, I was told it is an infantry soldiers job,
and prerogative to *****. If they aren't then they are not being trained
hard enough! That is what I was told by a full bird colonel when I had
became a new Sgt., in the infantry. I was concerned that my men's
complaining would reflect poorly on my leadership abilities, But the
Colonel told me he would be worried more, if my men didn't complain.
Thank You, to all the, 1/2 of 1%, of the men, and women that have
served, and are serving in our military, both past and present. These
soldiers ( American military personnel), are just that, American
Soldiers. They are our responsibility and a representation of us as a
society as a whole, and not mercenaries who freely roam the globe to
fight, and kill just for the pure joy of doing so. I welcome your
thoughts and words army medic, as strange as they sound to me, and only
ask of everyone else, to PLEASE, visit the site and read these men and
women's words, thoughts, and fears for your self.

In most armies, medics wear specific insignia, with a prominent Red
Cross on a white background. Islamic countries use a red crescent
instead while Israeli medics wear the Magen David Adom (a red star of
David on a white background). These symbols signify to enemy soldiers
that the medic is a noncombatant, providing medical care. For many
years, most medics have carried at least a side arm like the handgun and
knife (and now, frequently a rifle, carbine or submachine gun), to be
used as a defensive weapon. Medical personnel may be armed, but may only
use their weapons to protect themselves or the wounded and sick in their
care. If they use their arms offensively (i.e. attacking or assaulting),
or carry arms that qualify as offensive (such as a sniper rifle, machine
gun or grenade launcher), they then sacrifice their protection under the
Geneva Conventions. Generally, a medic holding his/her weapon is
considered to be an armed, military threat. According to the Geneva
Convention, knowingly firing at a medic wearing clear insignia is a war
crime.

US Military
Snipers are volunteers accepted for sniper training on the basis of
their aptitude as perceived by their commanders. Military snipers may be
trained as FACs (Forward Air Controllers) to direct military air
strikes, FOs (Forward Observers) in artillery target indication, and as
mortar fire controllers (MFCs). Effective sniping in the military
context may necessitate assuming a stationary position for long periods,
perhaps for days at a time. Fatigue and muscle stiffness often result
from the enforced immobility. Additionally, urination and defecation
into a bag or other container may become essential
Snipers use deception in the form of camouflage, unusual angles of
approach, and frequent, often slow movement to prevent accurate
counter-attacks. Without being seen, some snipers are able to shoot an
observant target from less than 90 m (98 yd), while the target is still
searching for them.

Daniel said "ok real fast question Belushi, and it is one i ask everyone
who has talked to a soldier somewhere. You have tlaked to his soldier, I
do not doubt it. However, how do you know that he speaks for everyone
there like you claimed? You dont. He comes home bitter and upset, for
whtaever reason it does not matter, and decides to state his opinion as
the general opinion. It happens all the time, and way too often. I am
sorry my friend, but I will never take the owrd of one person as the
word of an entire group. "

Hi Daniel, a very good point.
He didnt seem bitter about it at all. In fact he said that the locals
he met actually made it worthwhile.
But the time spent there took him 9 months to get over. He is now in
Germany having done two tours in Basra.
I didnt get the feeling he had any resentment, as he actually said that
he went there as he was ordered to - more, resignation than rancour
