of course I know the VA forms that vets deal with, the waiting periods, the failure of making proper diagnoses...this needs dealt with..

BUT....this also can give a clue on what universal healthcare would be like

wrong again friend. Yes, what yuo said about the va is true. hwoever this is true because of te fact that va is a business and nothign else any more. They look ta savingmoney wherever they can, and whenever they can, even when it means not taing care of our vets.

10 years is kind of a long time. IMO.

ok look at this scenario, and it is a very common one for soldeirs leavig the service.

they get out in say 2000.
first year is usually spent in looking for work and getting settled in.

next few years are spent in taking care of their families and children.

A good many soldiers fall into what I did. got out of service, my wife was ins ervice. all good, except she deployed to iraq four months after our second son was born. i was a singel parent for over a year. This by the way happened two years after I got out. is pent my first two years barely making endsmeet with minimum wage jobs and such, plus taking care of our first son.
when she came home from Iraq, it had been almsot 6 years since I got out. She came back so messed up I was literally taking care of her and our children, continually lookinf dor work cause I kept losing myjobs due to haveing to miss time to take care of her.
two yearslater she is so messed up that she runs away with a drug dealer that she met while she was assigned to a mental health ward in the va system, abandoning our children with me.
I spent the next several years, divorcing her, raisingmy kids, and getting my youngest son medical help he needs. I now have approsimately 8 months left of those ten years.

now dont get me wrong, I am nto sorry I chose anything I did, and I would not change anythign i did just to go back to school. however, due to circumstances beyond my control, ten years is not enough time to collect on my gi bill. And this, folks is a very common issue among the MAJORITY of soldiers getting out of service.

keep i mind also, that the gi bill does nto pay for college, it reimburses the soldier who has to pay for college first.

Does this sound truly reasonable to you?

Not to sound rude, but maybe you should have waited to have a kid. I mean you knew what the bill stated and could figure out that it would be easier to go to school w/o a child then that was a decision to make. There are people in that same scenario except that they never were in the military but had a kid too young and couldn't go to school. Life is about the choices we make. I still say 10 years is a long time.

I worked 32 hours and took 19 hours in school. My friend worked full time all through college, was paying for a house, and went to school full time. These were engineering degrees. I don't see how taking 2 classes a semester and working full time would be that difficult(thats all you would need to finish in 10 years). Also after starting your degree you could probably do a co-op and make usually much more than minimum wage. ( i knew people that made over $20 hr when they co-oped) Work one semester or year and save and take the next off for school.

There are lots of options out there if you try and find them.

Im voting Mccain because I agree with the things i see him supporting.

i also really am excited about having Palin as VP.

I see mccain improving america.
I see obama making america much much worse

So you agree with McCaint aking away Veterans rights? You agree with McCain telling a veteran that oh well, you went overseas but you werent shot at, so you dont get any assistance with education? Let alone those who dont go overseas at all.

McCain has come right out and stated he does nt agree with education benefits for soldiers. he has also eluded to wanting more than just education rights stopped for veterans, or reduced.

I am sorry, but ANYONE who outright states that they do not want our soldiers to have the benefits they have earned and more so, has no business being in command of those same soldiers.

the information that I read Mccain does support veteran benefits. He was a soldier at one time, a POW. I dont believe he will decrease any current veteran benefits. and from what I have looked into, right now...veterans and any military organization has very nice benefits.

I am a veteran of six years. Do you know what rights I have? I have the right to go to college within ten years of leaving the army, or forfeiting my claim to assistance. Does not matter if I am unable to attend due to caring for family memebrs, or having to work two part time jobs in order to feed my family, and thus dont have the ability to go. I also have the right to petition the va for assistance with ealthcare if I can not afford it on my own. And when searching for work, I get two "points" in my favor towards employment. Also, IF my credit rating is GOOD enough I can apply for a loan towards a house or small business. those are every single one of my benefits, and I left the service under honorable conditions.

A bill was reccomended, that would remove that cap, or extend it, so that solders wh oleft service honorably, would be allowed to go to college when their schedules permitted, thus allowign them to use the benefit they actually paid in to get. It cost me 1200 dollars in order to receive the gibill (college assistance). No this isnt a lot, in the whole of things, but it is still money I paid in. mcCain outright stated if veterans could not use their benefits, then too bad.

He, also stated that the only people that shuld receive any kind of education benefits were those that saw actual combat, no matter what they did during service to their country.

he also stated he wnats to reduce health benefits to veterans, and soemthign to the effect that mentalhealth is not somethign the va should pay for ever.

He has also been known to say that he doesnt believe in ANY benefits for veterans unless they have served in war tiem conditions, period.

So I am sorry, but again, he has no business being commander in chief of our military.

Idk..I do believe some of the reasons his strict on timelines and benefits..is to encourage people to stay enlisted in the military. especially nowadays.
and heck ten years to make it through school. i made it through in 4 years, while working part/fultime and taking care of my family. and i still owe student loans.

i could have my loans repayed if i joined the army and go back to school and work on my bachelors or masters degree. not to mention the sign on bonus.

and please if mccain said these things cut and paste me a link.
and i can decipher it myself.

Why do i seem to be the only one that sees the VA actually doing a good job? I missed a counceling appointment once and the councelor called me from home to make sure i was ok. The send me any meds i need through the mail. The offer any immunizations. About the only thing they dont cover is eye care and dental. Not to mention, i have an uncle who was diagnosed with cancer. The doc gave him 3 years, (Civilian doc). Spent the first two getting bumped around from doctor to doctor withouth any treatment. His bills were getting to big to afford so he signed up for the VA for insurance since he was a vietnam vet. He was recieving treatment within a week or two of signing up. They were looking for donors before the next couple months passed. Within a year he had his operation, and is now cancer free. The VA has a VERY caring staff. SOmetimes the budget they recieve isn't big enough to give the best care, but the staff busts ass to make up the difference. The two VA hospitals i am talking about are located in Nashville, Tenn. and Augusta, Maine. The proceedure was faily new too. (stem cell transplant) Cheers to the staffs at both hospitalsdrinker drinker .

and BTW much to Bush's dismay, the G.I. Bill is now much bigger as well. Covering costs up to state university level for up to four years. I believe there is a monthly stipend on top of that too. You can thank Senator James Webb for the program. (Sorry, i know it was off topic.)

Many people take online classes to get through college. Did you look into that? That can be done at home while raising a family and working.
