My mom told me that in order for something to be considered an antique it must be at least 100 years old. I believe her. So, an antique could be a ham sandwich forgotten inside an antique lunch box.

You see, if packaging is intact it makes any item more valuable. Antiques are not packaged, they are usuaully well used. For instance, a frequently used, through the ages, handmade, bowl circa 1987...would make ebay volatile.
