Werent they the ones that were persecuted by the christians for being too extreme in their beliefs?
The church decided they were heretics and went on a slaughter spree finding them and killing them - all in the name of god, though. |

The church decided they were heretics and went on a slaughter spree finding them and killing them - all in the name of god, though. They were the ones that Pope Innocent III decided were heretic and gave the King of France papal bulls to commit mass genecide on. Are we talking about the same group? hmmmmm ![]() |

I never heard of them before and just looked them up.
It appears that they believed that there were entirely two sperate Gods. A good God and a bad God. They actually thought of the devil as the bad God. They also rejected the Old Testament as having been written by the demon God. (I can certainly see why they could easily beleive that). The did embrace Jesus, but denounced his incarnation as a man and claimed that he was pure spirit. They didn't believe that the good God could take physical form at all because the good God is entirely spiritual. The Catholic church did appear to view them as a serious threat as their faith was spreading quickly. So the Catholic church decided to murder the "heathens". ![]() Good old Christians, you can always count on them to murder the heathens. ![]() Where they right or wrong? I think this is just yet another example of how these ancient Mediterranean mythologies drive people to believe in the weirdest superstitions. Obviously it was bible-based as they rejected the Old Testament but embraced the New. They actually saw the Old Testament as being valid. It was just the work of the demonic God instead of the good God. So it was still part of their 'believe' system. After all, even Satan is part of the Christian belief system, if Satan had written a book they'd probably want to read it to use it as a source of more judgments of what "not to do". I personally feel that if there was any "good" God versus "bad" God, (or even a fallen angel), then the good God would make itself known to decent people. After all, it woudln't be so 'good' if it played stupid guessing games with 'good' people. Why jerk around the people who are on it's side? If there's a 'good' God that could talk to me, I'm sure it would have done that by now. Either it can't talk to me, or it's not 'good'. Either way, there's a problem in the mix. ![]() |

An interesting point in the story of the Cathars is there was a direct tie between the Cathars and the Knights Templar
