We get better rates here... but then again, you better do a thorough walk around, lol.

Can fly a 150 wet for about $60 and a Warrior for around $80. But that's on a little hole-in-the-wall airport that I fly out of. I think the reputable places are more in line with the $105 for a 172.

Years ago (1998 actually) I belonged to the Cessna flying club. At the time I'm pretty sure it wa subsidized by Cessna and we flew very nice and well maintained 172's for $30/hr wet. Those were the days....

I'm not licensed. but I can and do fly.
Not as much in the last few years.
Like you said it is expensive.
When I first started flying I could rent a C-172 for $40.00 an hour with a pilot. That was back in the late 80's.
Now, like you said, it's well over a hundred.

Very cool!!!! When I started flying, I was in a military flying club...we had a cessna 150 and it was $10.00 and hour wet and the instructor was $10.00 an hour......

First time I solo'd....I got up to 4,000 feet and got up there and then after I got over the shakes.....I said......"what the hell am I doing up here???? And how the hell am I gonna get DOWN?????" laugh laugh laugh

I've heard that joining the civil air patrol is a good way to get your hours up. But you're on call and have to be able to leave your job when needed... .and you have to wear the 'fake airforce' uniform. I think the air force guys must love to make fun of the CAP guys.

Actually, the CAP is in fact an official auxillary of the air force!!! They are recognized and utilized by all the services from time to time. Now I've never seen a case where you had to leave your job to do it as it's a strictly volunteer thing.

I came REAL close to joining the CAP a number of years ago because, like you said, it's a wonderful way to build your time, but I had to work the evenings that they had their meetings. I could walk to their meeting place in about 3 minutes from where I work, but I didn't feel that I should join an organization that I couldn't be part of regular meetings. Also, I couldn't leave my job every time they had a meeting.

But I know most all of the guys and they find it to be very rewarding!!!! They were kept very busy after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita down here with official missions so everyone got lots of time. Check into it......I think you'll find that it isn't as demanding as you think....

And NO air force guy or anyone else that's ever crash landed that looks up and sees a CAP aircraft circling overhead will EVER make fun of the CAP or it's members....Just a thought...
