Wisdom
As long as we do not analyze things, we can easily label them "like this, or like that." but as soon as we begin to analyze their reality - not just their appearance, but how they actually exist - we are analyzing their ultimate reality. If you look carefully there is nothing to be found there. |

Generosity
If you become proud and arrogant when giving, or if you practice gererosity with the idea of a reward, then all the merit of the generosity is lost. Instead, bodhisattvas pray that the positive karmic result of their generosity will ripen in others rather than in themselves. |

"The greatest achievement is selflessness.
The greatest worth is self-mastery. The greatest quality is seeking to serve others. The greatest precept is continual awareness. The greatest medicine is the emptiness of everything. The greatest action is not conforming with the worlds ways. The greatest magic is transmuting the passions. The greatest generosity is non-attachment. The greatest goodness is a peaceful mind. The greatest patience is humility. The greatest effort is not concerned with results. The greatest meditation is a mind that lets go. The greatest wisdom is seeing through appearances." Atisha. |

"Aware of the suffering caused by the destruction of life, I vow to cultivate compassion and learn ways to protect lives of people, animals, plants, and minerals. I am determined not to kill, not to let others kill, and not to condone any killing in the world, in my thinking, and in my way of life.” Ven. Thich Nhat Hanh.

Generosity
Giving is not merely a remedy against greed. The purpose of generosity is to increase the courage of giving. This is called the Trandscendent Perfection of Generosity. |

Joyful Exertion
There are two kinds of ego. When we say "I" or "me," it usually connotes a degenerate state of mind. But there is a different, more helpful aspect: that of self confidence. When we say, "I will do it; I will work for the beneift of sentient beings" or " I will overcome the influence of disturbing emotions," it is a very powerful kind of confidence. |

Ethics
When discipline is imposed from the outside, it may be problematic. But when it comes from the inside, with knowledge of what is helpful and what is harmful, then we develop the wish to refrain from what is harmful. This is discipline imposed by our own mind, with an understanding of the consequences and the benefits of our actions. |

Ethics
If we don't guard our body, speech, and mind, we may become careless and commit negative actions. Isn't it then a good thing to be cautious? |

Ethics
How are we to guard the mind? We should use attentiveness to watch our thoughts and mindfulness to judge whether we are acting correctly. With these two we have the means to annihilate all adverse conditions. |

For as long as space endures,
And for as long as living beings remain, Until then may I too abide To dispel the misery of the world. |

Generosity
Visualize every being as your own beloved mother or as another person for whom you have the utmost affection, someone who, for you, embodies great kindness. Call up the feelings of affection that arise with regard to that person and then extend those feelings to every other being. Perceive that each being has been equally kind and loving to you. |

"All the Buddhas of all the ages have been telling you a very simple fact: Be -- don't try to become. Within these two words, be and becoming, your whole life is contained. Being is enlightenment, becoming is ignorance."
"If you wish to see the truth, then hold no opinion for or against." |
|
|
|
"All things appear and disappear because of the concurrence of causes and conditions. Nothing ever exists entirely alone; everything is in relation to everything else."
"All wrong-doing arises because of mind. If mind is transformed can wrong-doing remain?" "A family is a place where minds come in contact with one another. If these minds love one another the home will be as beautiful as a flower garden. But if these minds get out of harmony with one another it is like a storm that plays havoc with the garden." |

"However many holy words you read, however many you speak, what good will they do you if you do not act on upon them?"
"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it." "The way is not in the sky. The way is in the heart." |
