What fan? Is a case fan? Or is it the fan connected to the CPU?
If it's the case fan, it's an easy fix- you can go out and get yourself a fan controller, which a kind of variable speed adjustment device that connects between your fan and its power supply. They're cheap too- only about a couple of bucks depending on the make and model you get. Keep in mind that there WILL be fiddling to have to deal with inside your computer, though- if you don't know what you're doing, you'd better take it to a shop. There are also case fans with microswitches that will give you fan speed adjustment as well. These can be a little more expensive as well, but they're well worth it. Just be sure to get the correct size fan. If it's your CPU fan that's making all the noise, that might be a little more difficult. That's because the CPU fan typically adjusts its speed as the CPU needs it. If it's running full-blast all the time, it might be a symptom of either one of two problems- - either your case is loaded with dust - or there's something else going on with your computer. The first scenario is easy- just go out and get some cans of compressed air and use them to blow out all the dust trapped in the fins in the processor's heat sinks. Dust will trap heat (as it keeps the fans from wicking heat away from the heat sinks), so keeping them clean should be a priority. The second scenario can be a bit more difficult and hard to diagnose, however. |
