Police have arrested a Broward County cook they say beat a Boynton Beach woman he met on an Internet dating site and held her hostage in her own apartment. Rachid Mdarra, 49, of Pompano Beach, was being held Wednesday in lieu of $53,000 bond. Rachid Mdarra, 49, of Pompano Beach, is charged with false imprisonment and battery. The woman told Boynton Beach police in mid-July she met Mdarra on an internet dating site about two years ago, but met him in person only in late June or early July. She said the two became intimate almost right away and Mdarra spent five nights at her home. The woman said on July 13, Mdarra beat and choked her. She said she wanted to leave and call police but Mdarra threatened to kill her and took her keys and the access gate card for her apartment complex. Later that night, she said, when Mdarra went to the bathroom, she fled to a nearby gas station and called police. The woman said Mdarra came back to her home several times after that to threaten and harass her. Mdarra originally refused to meet with police. On July 23, he returned to the woman's home and began to again assault her, but neighbors stopped him and walked him off the apartment property, a police report said. |
