I believe that Jesus freed Christians from the dietary laws. Jesus taught that it is not what goes into a man which corrupts his heart, but what comes out. The idea that performing certain actions or avoiding certain foods can lead to heaven is one which suggests what man can make himself holy. If man can make himself holy, then I don't see the purpose in Jesus' sacrifice and the suggestion by Jesus that "only God is good" is a lie, because a man can make himself "good". That's my personal perspective on the subject.

What was said at the time made perfect sense. In 3000 BC a pork chop could kill you, and under cooked one today could do the same thing. The Lord was warning those that if you eat certain foods it might make you sick, or "it will be an abomination unto you." Vomiting in public would be considered the abomination.

No food is good for you. I'm not saying there is no nutritional value in anything. What I'm saying is all foods have some part of them that aren't meant for human consumption. Apples have arsenic in the seeds, chicken can give you saminilla, what the main message of the bible is, at least in these areas, is that one should take things in moderation, and variety is the spice of life.

It could be that Peter didn't understand the lesson fully. Or it could be that Peter understood the lesson, but doubted it because of his years of living Kosher. Regardless, the fact that Peter was Kosher from his time with Jesus until Acts 10, doesn't change the meaning of Acts 10.
