Topic: OMG ....... my AC!!! Help! | |

Anybody know anything about air conditioners?
Suddenly my air conditioner started freezing up about 3days ago and now it kicks on and nothing happens.... no air in the vents throughout the entire house. I checked and everything is thawed out as far as I can tell. Any help? Something I can do until Monday when I can call a repairman? |

It is still running though. I can hear the unit kick on. Did you say that the vents weren't blowing? |

Can't pay a repairman to come out until Monday.
I just changed the filter when I noticed it freezing up. Right no air coming through the vents yet I can hear the unit outside running . |

How far are you from Bardstown??
I might know someone cheap. |

I'm guessing a central unit? is it all outside? or do you have what is called an air handler in the house? If it is a split system, where youre condensing unit is outside, and the air handling unit is inside, say in a closet, then the air handler is not pulling the air across the cooling coils.
Try doing this, set the thermostat to "fan only" not cool, if there is no air movement then that is the problem. *edit* actually, it is the case also with a combined unit. you have one motor that blows cool air in, you have one that sucks it out, the "return" the blower has to be running or the coils will freeze up |

clean your filter, i had to do that with mine I'd agree with this one too. If you have not checked your filter, you may need to change it. That happened to me in my apartment. I was wondering why it was so hot. Once I changed the filter, cold air graced my apartment. |

If you have thawed it out the best you can and its all the same. Make sure you cut ALL power to it; it may have to re set internally.

I'll see if there is a fan only setting. |

Even a central unit has internal settings. Some can only be reset by cutting all power. Including a battery if it has one.

Thanks everyone I will figure it out in the morning. It's wet outside and I can't do much tonight.
