my sails are unfurled for this endeavor
not anticipating you would break away
leaving me like this:
i thought of our life together forever

you are gone, you are gone
like the waves that crash upon
your isle and i am left,
like wreckage, behind and bereft
far at sea and alone

i cannot grasp it
sos will not transmit
we shall never meet again
only in dreams, but who knows when?
i cannot bury it deep inside

there’s no bracing myself for these shoals
my ship is tossed in triton’s throws
you are all i have ever known
but years like currents are rolling on
i wonder how they might’ve been

still here like a skipjack on the bay,
rough waters ready to wash me away
but my ship is upright
and i see a harbor’s light
moving forward, i go alone and along

sailing and not pretending
a voyage that is unending,
i will be alright
my ship is a light
and stays easily afloat

on these treacherous waters
where many have been slaughtered
i shall sail on,
if only alone
i shall sail on
