How should the bible be read?
From begining to end?

I'm not sure if I read it here, but it stayed with me, how come most people like to reference different chapters/verses of the bible when responding to questions?

Is there a right and wrong way to read a bible?

~sighs~ i think the thing is that no one wants to get into an argument about this. I will say this and this is just my OPINION so no one needs to get ****ty about it

To me there is no right or wrong way to read and interpret gods word. Most of the time if im going to read the bible i pray first and ask for Gods guidance and for him to show me (normally show being by way of feeling a strong emotion sort of like a psychic message...its often reffered to as conviction) what passages would help me understand or obtain the knowledge that i need that day.

It depends on what you are trying to learn.

If you were doing a study on hell, then you would need to read every verse that discussed hell, would you not? You would also need to study many chapters and verses that don't explicitly mention hell. If your study on "hell" was reading a single chapter or verse, then you wouldn't be accomplishing your gaol.

There are certain assumptions made by Christians. The Bible is one document written by many people. The Bible is the word of God. Based on those beliefs, Christians will freely quote many different places from the BIble as if they were quoting different parts of the same large work by one author.

Should the bible be read like a romance or fiction book, from cover to cover?

Not sure I am looking for a particular topic nor anything specific. Just trying to get a feel of how to read the bible. Doesnt make sense (to me) to skip chapters, so I am asking.

I am still unsure how I stand on religion, I do find myself spiritual but have yet to find an organized religion I can understand nor wholeheartedly believe in.

There are things in the few religions I have looked into that seem logical and explainable and seem to fit in my mind, but still have many, many questions which is why I want to read the bible and see for myself.

Thanks

Is there a right and wrong way to read a bible?

1)

I generally read the new testiment first then roll back to the old. I've skipped around a few times, and read it cover to cover once. This time, cover to cover while highlighting stuff to ask my minister about.

2)

There are two types that quote the chapter/verse # along with the verse.
Type A: Those who want to show you that they have a superior knowledge of the book (and therefor have a much better understanding of what god wants than you ever will)
Type B: Those that hope by telling you what verse it is, that you'll actually pick up a bible and double check. Maybe even reading the passages around it to get the context it was said in.

3)

There is no wrong way to read a bible. It is your personal journy with the Lord, and he will guide you the way you need to go.

Well actually...I started by reading the Bible cover to cover...I was searching for something but didn't know what until IT hit ME! LOL That's the truth.

I mostly like to do devotional studies...like Kay Arthur is so rich with scriptures in her teachings. I got so much from her studies.

The Bible bookstores usually have studies with many topics...you might find something that would peak your interest there.

Well that's what I did for a while. Just a thought... In any case, enjoy your alone time with God. You will surely be blessed.

Thank you Quik. I find myself having to sort out and try and make sense of things I read (bible included) so thanks for input. Will look into devotional studies as well.
