In my opinion, helping someone is not doing for them. It is providing support or teaching so that they might do for themselves. I'd give food, possibly, but not money. Did you know panhandlers can make up to $40 an hour and often make more? |

I have and I probably will again. And be happy that I am able to.

that may be true, but im more concerned about what im doing, and trying my best to be a good person than what they are doing and if they are a good person. This translates to you do for others to make you feel good and not to actually make a difference? Just saying.... |

someone panhandling on a street corner? I have. But I would rather give a coupon for food .. |

someone panhandling on a street corner? It depends on the circumstances . you can not give them all . If you care you can not ignore them all : we are just humans . Every situation is different . |

True charity, IMO is given without conditions, expectations or judgments. Exactly....... and this, due to my experiences, means I cannot be charitible towards panhandlers. I have interviewed most of them at the county jail, and there is a bias. |

Yes, with a smile and never wonder what they do with it, I have been and WILL be rewarded....
Besides, better for my health, cause that's one less pack of cigs/bottle of booze I would buy.... "Savvy ke-mo sah-bee?" >>>>Our Creator must want us to Laugh.... Else HE wouldn't have made it FEEL Sooooo..... GOOD...!! May HE smile on you!<<<< |

My nephew lives near DC, when I was visiting once, we were walking around, panhandlers everywhere.
My nephew is The World's Greatest Young Man...ok, so I'm biased... A panhandler walks up, gives us this story about his family and he living in his car...my nephew reaches for his wallet, I stand back and watch, thinking "hhhmmm"...he pulls out a card of the local food shelter and offers to show him how to get there...the man was so thankful... We took this man and his family to this church, where my nephew volunteered at the time, he made sure the family was settled in before we went on about our evening. That is my favorite memory of spending a few days in DC with him. I had no clue he was affiliated with that work, what a special young man I've since started carrying cards of our local homeless/food shelters and hand those out to panhandlers, along with offering to buy them a meal. I won't give cash, however. |
