I heard and to tell you the truth I have no clue and therefore ask politely the following questions.

Was Jesus baptised at age 33?

If so then why at such a late age if he is the creator of the Christian faith??

Explain in simple English please. I am a foreigner and English is the third language I learned.

thanks:smile:

 Jesus was a Jewish Rabbi:smile:He followed all the traditions of his people. His cousin was baptising people. Being baptised has nothing to do with your age. I am not completely familiar with all of the practices of the Jewish faith but I dont think baptism holds the same significance with Jews as it does with Christians.

Hello,
Jesus was 33 when he was crucified. He was baptized before he started his ministry so it would have been well before this. Not sure how old he was though. Hope that helps!

Okay the Jewish created Christianity. Got that now.

I know it has nothing to do with age when baptised, but I would like to know what age he was baptised. Does anyone know?

Q. How old then was Jesus when He was baptized?
A. Thirty years old. Luke 3:23

http://www.imarc.cc/baptize/baptize.html

There was a law at the time that required one to be 30 years old to minister. I believe you had to be baptized before you started your ministry.

I'm not 100% positive but I think would have been between 32 and 33 yrs. As far as his age, I don't personally think that is am important issue. Probably of more importance, was the fact that being baptised was part of God's will for him (as God's word states "This is my son in whom I am well pleased"
The fact that he was baptised, by John the Babtist, as were others of that time, was to set an example of a testimony to the world and an example for like minded repented Christians to follow. His baptism was not the beginning of the creation of the Christian faith, but yet an example for us to follow.
The beginning of the Christian Faith, as I believe it to be, begins with the acknowledgement that Jesus is the one and only begotten son of the one and only true and living God. That Jesus was born, lived on this earth to show us the face and heart of God (his father), was slain and died upon the cross for every humanbeing's sin (we all have sin) every sin that ever was and ever sin that ever would be for all and all time. Rose from the grave on the 3rd day as was pretold and now sits at the right hand of God, to interceed for you and I and all who will accept these truths and ask him to forgive them, ask him to come and be the savior of their lives and live within their heart. This is the Cristian Faith, the baptism is a physical testimonial to the world of this faith, and in it's self alone has no power to save, not without acceptance of Jesus, and repentance. Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to witness my faith.

Jews would perform immersion for various reasons, so Jesus had surely been immersed many times in his life before his encounter with John the Baptist. The immersion by John the Baptist was performed because he was preaching that the Messiah had been born and he was calling all to repent and be spiritually purified. Jesus asked John to baptize him, because Jesus was setting an example for all of his followers.

Why so late??

Jesus had to be immersed on the eve of every Yom Kippur, so he had already been immersed many times, the practice of Baptism was new and established by John the Baptist as a sign of spiritual purity and acceptance of the Messiah.

Why so late??

Could this mean that he would have went to heaven regardless if he wasn't baptized? Did he ask John to baptize him to have more followers only?

 Jesus was not a Christian. He was, is and always will be Jewish. He obviously cherished the faith of his people. Although he is the god of the Christians there is no doubt that if he were here today he would be right there alongside his Jewish brothers and sisters in full support, as a member of the Jewish community.

johns baptism had great significance in this sense, all the OT prophets and leaders such as david, solomon and such had recieved gods spirit "upon" them, with jesus, he was first to recieve the holy spirit "within him" to dwell with him up to the time of his death. His baptism was not for the washing away of sins, he had none, it was to ready him to do his fathers will in the wholeness of the indwelling spirit. In that sense it was unique within the judeo/christian belief system.

Okay the Jewish created Christianity. Got that now.

no, we did not create Christianity. Humans created it.

The Jews that followed Christ were the first Messianic Jews. Messianic Jews came before Christians.

Jesus was a full on Jew. He was born, raised and died Jewish. He just added a little umph to the religion, gave it an extra edge, which is what angered the Jews and they had Him executed for preaching more than what the Torah spoke of. He asked questions, He gave more meaning to the commandments and to the teachings of the Torah: "There must be more to life than just love thy neighbor. You must love thy neighbor as your brother, and no matter who it is and where they are from, they are ALL your neighbors."

I have been under the tutelage of a very wonderful Baptist professor. Yes, I know I am Jewish, but being raised Roman Catholic, I am intrigued to know more about the G-d I prayed to as a child.

I will make sure on Sunday to take extra notes.
