Because life would be a boring & pointless trip if we could get close to everyone, easily. It is more satisfying to work hard for a stronger connection to fewer people. I think.

I'm going to say rhythms. If you meet someone and you 'click' you are really listening to the same 'beat' at that moment. I've met people where I don't immediately feel it but later do. Boom-ba-da-boom vs Clickity-clack = no connection. Stay open minded and just because you don't immediately connect doesn't mean you should throw the person in the permanent reject bin. The 'don't know' pile may be a better place for them.
