I have heard of three different groups of people who are commonly referred to as satanists. I believe that some of the difference of opinion here results from this unfortunate ambiguity.

Firstly, there are people who believe that the Bible and in the teachings of Jesus are accurate, but choose to follow Satan instead of God. These people are largely teenagers looking to be rebellious and who think sacrificing a cat will be fun, and most of them grow out of it.

Secondly, there are members of the Church of Satan, or more generally, those who follow the Satanic Bible. This religion is based on a belief that humans are basically just animals and certain "dark magic" principles similar but often opposing those of some Neo-Pagans. The founder of this religion chose the name "Satanism" in order to be edgy, controversial and antagonistic to the prevailing Christian morality, not to refer to the Adversary of God from Christian belief.

Thirdly, there are followers of Thelema, the religious creation of Aleister Crowley, who are often incorrectly called satanists.

To avoid confusion, I typically refer to the first variety as "anti-Christians", though I have never met one who is an adult.

the second yes i believe that it is a religion however i know no one who follows it. i know a few who know stuff about it.

the third i had to look up and i must say it seems interesting. i have no thoughts on it as far as being a relgion or not. would need to read more.

Well you know me. I am the most curious person in the world. Just want to learn more and more. It is something to look up in, but don't end up slaughtering poor goats or anything. I heard it is a very dangerous belief system, yet again I know little about it.

Well this is a tricky question as yes it is a religion that people follow but it is not considered to be a religion under the first amendment. Or rather not a government accepted religion which is why you don't see churches of satan in your towns. Although to be honest I don't think that satanists are too concerned about that. They really don't care what other people think in regards to their religion or belief systems. I know a few satanists and they are all very fun and interesting people if you actually get to know them. A lot of them don't fit into your sterotypical view of someone who is a satanist though. They are just as misunderstood as a lot of other religions are. I would never use satanist or satan worshipper as a demeaning term because some of these people are the nicest people I have met.

There is a letter from the Association of Bishops from the USA to local parishes warning about some of these people who go to church and since communion is given either in the hand (and then the person put it in his/her mouth) or the mouth, they take communion in the hand, and instead of eating it. They take it away to celebrate what they call black masses.
So this letter from the USA Bishops is in order to alert ushers and extraordinary minister of the Holy Communion to be aware of these people.
What seems funny to me is that this satanist people really believe in the presence of Christ in the Holy Communion even more than most catholics, If this were not the case they wouldn't need to steal the Holy Body of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

satan has almost as many religions as "GOD". he has gone by many names down through the centuries. Nowadays, most people have him confused with "GOD".

in my opinion satanism is probably listed as a cult. but i would consider it some peoples religion.

There is a TRUE GOD in Heaven and a FALSE GOD on the Earth.
