Topic: Flynn's Confession | |
---|---|
When Danny Flynn had realized
He was at St. Peter's Gate His first reaction was to ask Am I now Dan the late? St. Peter looked down from his perch and said, "Dan, Can't let you in." Then old man Flynn tried to recant his mortal life of sin " In second grade, I stuck that gum," "In Wendy Miller's hair." "But Tommy Doyle's the one to blame!" "I did it on his dare!" "And on my fifteenth birthday," "When I diddled Sally Barr," "She was the one, Who dragged me in," "Her father's empty car!" "There was that time, I stole that car," "with my buddies Doyle and Pickett." "But Meagan Rourke was at the glen," "Where She promised we could Lick it." "I must admit, The curse of drink," "Had pushed me from the narrow." "When I stole the vicar's home made brew," "In Flannagin's wheel barrow." "And all those late nights at the pub," "With poor Maureen at home." "I swear it was ol' Satan's ale," "That caused my loins to roam." St. Peter listened dutifully as Flynn ran down his list He shook his head and said to Flynn "There's much that I have missed." "I have no record here You see," "of sex or booze or theft." "It seems my staff has dropped the ball." "They've been terribly inept." "It seems this changes everything." "I'll have to send you south." "It never would have come to this," "If you had shut your mouth." "When I'd arrived, You said to me," "You couldn't let me in!" "How could you tease a soul like that?" implored poor Danny Flynn "Now Danny boy," St. Peter said "It wasn't you, You see." "The reason I had held you back," "Was that I'd misplaced my key!" |

May you always have work for your hands to do, May your pockets hold always a coin or two My the sun shine bright on your windowpane May the rainbow be certain to follow the rain May the hand of a friend always be near you And may God, fill your heart with gladness to cheer you! Happy St. Patrick's Day! |
