Reverend Rabbit isn't really an atheist anyway. He just thinks he is. But if you look at him closely you'll see his divine halo.

In fact a lot of people who claim to be atheists aren't really atheists. They just realized that religion is a farce so they call themselves atheists meaning that they don't bleieve in religion.

In truth they don't believe in anything. But that's not being an atheist. That's being agnostic. An agnostic it actually saying to God, "Be whatever you are, I'm not going to try to put you in a box".

An actual atheist is completely and throughly convinced that "god" cannot exist. But then it comes back to the "god" word. Just exactly what is it that they don't think exists? Descriptions of "gods" by religions???

I think any atheist would be hard-pressed to claim to no version of pantheism can possibly be true. Most of them truly don't even understand what options are available. And so they can hardly denounce things they don't even know about.

I think everyone is utlimately agnostic no matter what they think they believe. Nor how strongly they think they believe it.

In fact, that's precisely what the word FAITH means. It means, "I'm really agnostic but I'm pretending to believe in something".

A REAL OR TRUE ATHEIST IS ONE WHO HAS NO CONCEPT OF GOD - HE IS NOT CAPABLE OF EVEN THINKING OR DISCUSSING GOD YET ALONE BELIEVING IN HIM - TO BE AWARE OF GOD IN ANYWAY TO DISCUSS - DEBATE ETC. Yes but I was at a tent revival and I was about 13 and chock full of hormones... When the weeping, wailing and speaking in tongues really got going I was "overcome".

It was really hot and I think I was actually on the edge of passing out... it was at my best friends christian summer camp and I got baptized later in the week. Fully immersed in the lake; fully clothed- they didn't believe in "mixed bathing".

I think I started to "lose my faith" when I found out that dancing was also a "sin"- and french kissing was definitely a no-no, despite the fact that all those christian boys were always trying to stick their tongues down our throats... just like regular boys.

What makes you say that?

I was forced to go to church, sunday school and finally to confirmation classes (Lutheran). I decided I would try to enjoy it and learn. Thing, they only wanted to teach things that made no sense to me.

So I went to every church I could get a friend to invite me to. For many years I did this. I can't tell you how many I was asked to refrain from returning to. I was a skinny basically quiet kid, I just asked questions. Apparently the kind THEY didn't like.

I am an atheist, I have always been, even when I wanted to be like everyone else and find a reason to beleive, I found no answeres worthy of my belief.

I have, however, been saved. It was a day I will never forget. It was that proverbial weight being lifted from my shoulders. Tears of joy and peace raining from my eyes. That was the day, I gave up the search and gave in to logic. That was the day I accepted that I and I alone experience my life and I alone give voice to my thoughts and responsibility to my actions.

Tribo - ok I just read your posts explaining that you think one must have NO concept of god in order to be atheist.

Then by your definition one must believe in all gods, and goddesses and in all myths and urban legends and in ghosts and all manner of spirits. For most of us can discuss them all to some degree.

If that's the case then either they are all true no matter the degree of highest belief to lowest, are they are all false without exception.

hi R, it would be the case if that's what i meant, let me try to put it another way slightly.

if someone does not have the capacity to grasp the meaning of language and can form no thought's or concept's - and i'm not sure this is the case with the most severe cases of mental retardation- but if it is - then there is no way i see of them to be able to believe or picture or discuss or debate an exsistence of god by use of what is consiered normal accepted means, you might say that it holds true in other cases such as people in deep comas but i dont know that for sure either.

the point im trying to make is those who take the stance that they "do not" believe in god, are able and do discuss him and his supposed exsistence as if he were real or does exist? But if god is real and you donot believe in him - yet you discuss your non-belief of him - to me that shows belief!! or how can you "meaningfully" discuss something that to you has or holds no meaning - god either means "something" to you, and if he does then you cant say this something can't exist, for if you do then your statement is pointless? for instance - if i say there is no god, and then make a statement such as - the bible says god is all knowing n an open forum such as this one - with that statement - i am making a remark that is based on this god having existence and is all knowing.well if he exist and is all knowing then how can i say that my "belief" is one of not believing he exist? And a true atheist would say this if he could - that is why i believe all but the infinite beings are the only atheist. all else is agnostic to varying degrees.

as to your second part - if i understand you correctly- i dont believe anyone has to believe in anything, for the largest portion of mankind is capable of reason and logical thought and deduction of information to decide what is best for them especially in the realm of spirituality, but in life in general also. normally there is little barring our intellect to think and ponder over what you decide fits your personal wants, desires, needs, and all else. if you believe in all gods and all supernatural or what ever that just makes you someone interesed in it, taken by it, or part of it, etc.. it does not make you anthing but what you deem to call yourself or affiliate yourself with. i personally dont like labels and have been called diest, backslider,agnostic,lost,devil's advocate,truist, and all sorts of nonrepeatable names hahahahaha.
but i will only admit to truist.
