An SUV gets what, +/- 18 mpg on the highway (most commutes to/from work are usually mostly highway).
So an (I think) average commute of 15 miles, round trip of 30 miles, at $1.99 a gallon you'd spend $16.58 a week commuting for work. At $3.99 it would be $33.25 a week. A difference of $16.67 a week. The price of a dinner? A lunch and maybe a couple coffee's. Not many people that drive SUVs anyway are going broke over $16.67 a week. Maybe the commutes twice as far, so +/- $32.00 a week. Still just $120.00 a month...., add the other driving that will be done and the difference is likely still less than $150.00 a month for the majority of Americans. A pain that we have to pay it, but not something thats going to break most of us.
