Can one of you please tell me what makes Obama a good choice to be President?

Despite his excellent ability as a public speaker, most of what I've heard from him has come out sounding like rhetoric to me.

Somebody want to explain Obama to me?

as an outsider looking in, who spent 30 years in the states, IMO, there is nothing that would make him a good president. Hes not a strong enough leader to unite the country, none of the candidates are unfortunatly..additionally I dont think hes strong enough to handle the foreign affair mess the Bush administration is going to leave behind.....

As for Hilary lmao what a waste of space...not sure which is the worste of the 2 evils... neither of them have a chance in hell of winning a Presidential election anyway...bottom line it doesn't matter who wins the election, all americans lose

I am not going to sing his praise I will rather ask another question. Which of the the choices has clearly stated exactly what they plan to do? Rhetoric it all the American Public and media seems to be able to handle.

His understanding that America is a Gov of the people, his willingness to listen to our needs, and redirect the Gov to answer our voices and consider them important.

To realize that the peoples pursuit of happiness is more important than the profits of the corporations that have taken over this country!

The intelligence to realize that aggression in foreign policy has not worked, and the courage to open dialog with others rather than ammo boxes.

The desire, willingness, and understanding needed to put America's reputation back where it belongs.

Of course one man can not do any of this alone. His choices for vice President and cabinet members will be the defining tell of his true leadership abilities. If he picks Hillary for vice President and does not secure a competent Sec of defense then all hope is lost!
Hopefully he will pick a running mate that holds the same visions for our country as he does. John Edwards would be a good choice, IMO, if he will accept the position.
For a Sec of State, he needs what he lacks most. Experience, IMO Bill Richardson would be ideal. He has an excellent record in foreign affairs. A record of accomplishment made possible by the very thing Obama's plan is based on. Open dialog with other leaders and a willingness to listen to their fears and wishes without backing down and looking like a wimp.

He wasn't my first choice, but he is the best choice left, and a pretty good place to start America's recovery to greatness.

If he picks Hillary Clinton as a running mate all bets are off, and my vote will probably change! It will show me that all my perceptions above were just wishful hope!

I didn't NOT like Richardson...LOL.
My biggest issue with Obama at this point has got to be who he has as a foriegn policy advisor.
Brzezinski is globalist scum and has openly bragged about how he assisted the Afghan Rebels in their defense against the Soviets, one of their leaders? Osama Bin Laden.

Also, I've been trying to find any source where Obama has talked about what he would do in the arena of Monetary policy, but haven't found anything.

I have other issues with Baracks platform, but that comes from my fiscal conservative thought processes, not like we've seen any fiscal conservatism from the current administration either, but I'm really hoping that we get someone in there that will do something about the death of the dollar and soon, before this NAU B.S., which is something else I'd like to see Obama address, what will he do with Bush's Sovereignty killing SPP deals.

Like you stated initially, it's all rhetoric. The idea that he came across the aisle and met in the middle was rhetoric as well. The fact that the entire TV and most of the newspaper media seems to be drooling over this guy doesn't sit well with me either. They are so clearly supporting him. I can't stand how he plays the victim card whenever someone says anything about him and how his supporters and advisors do the same. What was reported on the Huffington Post, what he said, thousands of miles away in a, what he thought, private fundraiser is saying much as well. That was where the bitter gun totting remarks came from. He said this before a PA primary, talking about small town people, in a private SAN FRANCISCO fundraiser that took place in a mansion with wealthy donors.

The fact that George Soros and his multiple organizations are pumping millions into his campaign doesn't sit well with me either. Obama may be the most liberal member of Congress, but the fact that he has George Soros, who is so radically far left, worries me. Soros is not a good guy, in any way.

Obama's foreign policy sounds ridiculous. Obama sounds like a Jimmy Carter clone. And we all know how well his foreign policy went. Jimmy Carter really damaged our foreign standing, especially in a realpolitik/Machiavellian view of the world, which I truly believe is the world we live in.

His healthcare plan, which WILL become universal healthcare is a HORRIBLE idea as well. I have medical issues and I am self employed, so I have to deal with cruddy healthcare plans, that screw me over because of pre-existing conditions, which is a ridiculous notion, but thats a much longer story. However, though I KNOW that the healthcare stuff must be overhauled, to put it all in the hands of the federal government is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. So, you want to raise taxes significantly and have the most wasteful efficient business ever created, the federal government, running the healthcare industry? Has anyone ever been to a government office and had either paperwork or anything done? It's ridiculous, but yes, let's have them manage and maintain our health. STUPID! Plus, I know there are many libertarians in here, I think you are one as well warmachine, you hate the IRS and other Federal stuff, you cannot even begin to like the thought of government healthcare. Talk about intrusive government that would increase in size to a new incredible level.

There is more, so much more, but I'll end there. Plus, I got to head off to work.

I dont think Obama is all that and I dont expect any core issues to change his hands will be tied with the massive defecit left by Bush. the fact that hillary and billary havent spoken out against the free trade agreements and Nafta that have decimated the working class is enough for me to give him my vote.

Well I agree with you on this one. This Hillary/Obama fight is just a distraction so Americans won't LOOK at how bad our choices are. THAT is sad. No need to delve into what they will do if they get elected either. Distract Distract Distract.

I agree...Him or Duncan Hunter would have been good. They should have side stepped the process & ran together. Now that would have been a ticket many Americans would agree on.

Well said, Fanta!

I agree that Hillary should not be allowed to be VP, just because she has been the one doing most of the mud-slinging in this Democratic race for the Presidency.

I fear that she might try to strong-arm the delegates, or try to sabotage Obama if she doesn't get her way.

Bill wouldn't have a problem if she was VP.

He'd get back into the White House so he can feel up interns again.

Starsailor,

I sympathize with you as I have medical issues as well.

I'm fortunate in that I'm a veteran and the VA takes care of the main ones.

This is Barack Obama's health care plan:

Barack Obama's Plan
Quality, Affordable and Portable Coverage for All

* Obama's Plan to Cover Uninsured Americans: Obama will make available a new national health plan to all Americans, including the self-employed and small businesses, to buy affordable health coverage that is similar to the plan available to members of Congress. The Obama plan will have the following features:

1. Guaranteed eligibility. No American will be turned away from any insurance plan because of illness or pre-existing conditions.

2. Comprehensive benefits. The benefit package will be similar to that offered through Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP), the plan members of Congress have. The plan will cover all essential medical services, including preventive, maternity and mental health care.

3. Affordable premiums, co-pays and deductibles.

4. Subsidies. Individuals and families who do not qualify for Medicaid or SCHIP but still need financial assistance will receive an income-related federal subsidy to buy into the new public plan or purchase a private health care plan.

5. Simplified paperwork and reined in health costs.

6. Easy enrollment. The new public plan will be simple to enroll in and provide ready access to coverage.

7. Portability and choice. Participants in the new public plan and the National Health Insurance Exchange (see below) will be able to move from job to job without changing or jeopardizing their health care coverage.

8. Quality and efficiency. Participating insurance companies in the new public program will be required to report data to ensure that standards for quality, health information technology and administration are being met.

It sounds like he wants to give people who are self-employed with pre-existing conditions the help they need!

That should be good news for someone like you.
