|

I don't know how it is in your state buttons but here in Ontario if it a
scheduled day off then you do not have to work it. |

Depends on what your contract says but no one can be forced to work
overtime or more than 48 hrs in a week, according to govt regulations. Also because of overtime you can t fall below standard min wage for hrs worked. |

If the topic is Forced overtime.
Boss has the right to say, won't work extra, then I don't have a job for you. He will prob. have to pay unemployment, but would depend on how the matter is presented. As a former employer, I would never do that, but if there was not a good reason for the employee not helping me; I had second thoughts about helping them You help me/ I help you. Makes the world go around. |

thanks thats what i thought i guess depends on if it is a union job or

I had that fight once and lost..as a truck driver I said that
I didn't have the hours but I was wrong,,lol Now as factory goes, if you refuse, then most times, they will get YOU back for it, by your working weeks hours, (they could cut ya back) or by riding you at your job. or they might give you time off, like one or two days,. or some might just let you go.... So it greatly depends on that place and if they even have anything in work rules and job duty spec's. wrtten down as policy, because if they don't, the above could apply!! |

I thought,anything over 40 hours a week was O.T.

Well as force you to work overtime they can not force you too but if a
company ask you too and you do not when it is needed after a while that company can let you go for not meeting the needs of the company. Most places you will not have a contract you sign. But.... some companys when you hire on will give you several sheets of paper to go through on company guide lines I suggest that if you did receive one of these types of paper work you better read the fine lines cause most will say that if ask to work overtime they expect it unless you have a good excuse for after so many excuses you can be let go for not doing what is required from the company at that time anything over 40 hours is consider as overtime unless they have fell under a differnt labor laws. So no they cannot force you to work but yes it can leave you without a job in the long run if you refuse to ever help them out when they need you too. Humm at times it's more or less job secruity to work the overtime. |

If you are in a union, consult your union steward.
But no one can be forced to work over 40 hours per week, eight hours per day. If you are required to work over, your company must provide extra pay incentives such as time and a half, or something commensurate to added incentive. And then, they must ask you if you would like to work over the 40 hour limit. I swear, though, it would be better if you were a union member! |
