Topic: LEPERS THE FOURTEENTH - part 27 | |

Sometimes I think that war is necessary.
Every night I pray for peace on Earth. I hand out my dollars to the homeless. But believe that every able soul should work. My father gave me my shotgun that I'll hand down to my son, try to teach him everything it means. (chorus) I'm a man of my convictions. Call me wrong, call me right. But I bring my better angels to every fight. You may not like where I'm going, but you sure know where I stand. Hate me if you want to, love me if you can. I stand by my right to speak freely. But I worry 'bout what kids learn from TV. And before all of debatin' turns to angry words and hate, sometimes we should just agree to disagree. And I believe that Jesus looks down here and sees us, and if you ask him he would say (chorus) I'm a man of my convictions. Call me wrong, call me right. But I bring my better angels to every fight. You may not like where I'm going, but you sure know where I stand. Hate me if you want to, love me if you can. (chorus) I'm a man of my convictions. Call me wrong, call me right. But I bring my better angels to every fight. You may not like where I'm going, but you sure know where I stand. Hate me if you want to, love me if you can. |

Got a date a week from Friday with the preacher's son
Everybody says he's crazy I'll have to see I finally moved to Jackson when the summer came I won't have to pay that boy to rake my leaves I'm probably going on and on It seems I'm doing more of that these days [CHORUS 1:] I probably wouldn't be this way I probably wouldn't hurt so bad I never pictured every minute without you in it Oh You left so fast Sometimes I see you standing there Sometimes it's like I'm losing touch Sometimes I feel that I'm so lucky to have had the chance to love this much God gave me a moment's grace 'Cause if I'd never seen your face I probably wouldn't be this way Mama says that I just shouldn't speak to you Susan says that I should just move on You oughta see the way these people look at me When they see me 'round here talking to this stone Everybody thinks I've lost my mind But I just take it day by day [CHORUS 2:] I probably wouldn't be this way I probably wouldn't hurt so bad I never pictured every minute without you in it Oh You left so fast Sometimes I see you standing there Sometimes I feel an angel's touch Sometimes I feel that I'm so lucky to have had the chance to love this much God gave me a moment's grace 'Cause if I'd never seen your face I probably wouldn't be this way I Probably wouldn't be this way Got A Date a week from Friday with a preacher's son Everybody says I'm crazy Guess I'll have to see |

When all our tears have reached the sea
Part of you will live in me Way down deep inside my heart The days keep coming without fail A new wind is gonna find your sail Thats where your journey starts Youll find better love Strong as it ever was Deep as the river runs Warm as the morning sun Please remember me Just like the waves down by the shore Were gonna keep on coming back for more cause we dont ever wanna stop Out in this brave new world you seek Oh the valleys and the peaks And I can see you on the top Youll find better love Strong as it ever was Deep as the river runs Warm as the morning sun Please remember me Remember me when youre out walkin When the snow falls high outside your door Late at night when youre not sleepin And moonlight falls across your floor When I cant hurt you anymore Youll find better love Strong as it ever was Deep as the river runs Warm as the morning sun Please remember me Please remember me |

was cruisin' in my Stingray late one night,
When an XKE pulled up on the right He rolled down the window of his shiny new Jag, And challenged me then and there to a drag I said "You're on buddy -- my mill's running fine, Let's come off the line now at Sunset and Vine But I'll go you one better, if you've got the nerve, Let's race all the way -- to Dead Man's Curve" (Dead Man's Curve) is no place to play (Dead Man's Curve) you'd best keep away (Dead Man's Curve) I can hear 'em say: "Won't come back from Dead Man's Curve" The street was deserted late Friday night; We were buggin' each other while we sat out the light We both popped the clutch when the light turned green, You shoulda heard the whine from my screamin' machine! I flew past La Brea, Schwab's and Crescent Heights, And all the Jag could see were my six taillights He passed me at Doheny then I started to swerve, But I pulled her out and there we were - at Dead Man's Curve (Dead Man's Curve) is no place to play (Dead Man's Curve... [sounds of skids and crashes] ) (Spoken): "Well, the last thing I remember, Doc, I started to swerve And then I saw the Jag slide into the curve I know I'll never forget that horrible sight, I guess I found out for myself that everyone was right" Won't come back from Dead Man's Curve... (Dead Man's Curve) is no place to play (Dead Man's Curve) you'd best keep away (Dead Man's Curve) I can hear 'em say: "Won't come back from Dead Man's Curve" (Dead Man's Curve) is no place to play (Dead Man's Curve) you'd best keep away (Dead Man's Curve) I can hear 'em say: "Won't come back from Dead Man's Curve" (fade) ----- Notes from this Californian (JayDeeBee1@aol.com): This song's ill-fated drag race takes place along L.A.'s famed Sunset Boulevard. "Vine," "La Brea," "Crescent Heights" and "Doheny" are cross streets; "Schwab's" is the legendary drug-store-with-soda-fountain where movie stars hung out (since torn down; but nicely depicted in the 1950 film "Sunset Boulevard"). Jan Berry's (of Jan & Dean) near-fatal car crash (April 1966) ironically happened on Sunset Boulevard, but further west than the locations mentioned |
