Schools are offering sexual education classes, how many of you are for educating/reinforcing sexual education at schools? How many prefer to do it themselves???

Just had to sign/decline my child for that ... I think it's a parents job. Especially some of the stuff they're teaching now that I disagree with.

Fran, what stuff? I thought it was all about the facts. I want to teach at home and have them taught at school. I want all of the bases covered.flowerforyou

WINX - that was posted by FADE not I. just letting you know.flowerforyou

Oops, sorry about that.flowerforyou

My brain knew that, but somehow I didn't type it that way.

I will do it on my own, and permit any sort of education supplements the school will provide. Never too much information. I live in Ohio, for goodness sake, how much can they provide in a red state? laugh

I think it is important to have this with his peers. I had so much sex education it was ridiculous. I met people with HIV, I put condoms on bananas, I saw videos of abortions, and more.

I also had a lot of, ummm.. well anyhow. I'm glad I was knowledgeable, as I do believe it prevented a lot of things that could've happened.

Wow. I didn't get any of that. I didn't get any sex education from the schools until I went to college.

Winx~ I went to school in Rhode Island. Sex Education started in grade six; I was 11. It required parental permission for grades 6-8, but in high school we had one full quarter of sex education each year. I say 'way to go' liberal education states. The information presented, in conjunction with it presented to us in front of our peers, was invaluable. At least it was to me.

told me kids(girls) about it when they were 5 and six....used real words.....then repeated the same story for the next ten years....seemed easier for me that way.....their mother was a little freaked...talking about penis and vaginas at the dinner table to first graders...but they are well informed...probably teaching their friends......

That sounds great. My child's old school had it in sixth grade but we left before then. The new school has nothing. It doesn't even have a health class. The parents voted not to have it before I got there. I was surprised when I found out.

That is terrible you don't even have the option. I hear Planned Parenthood gives great educational classes. The MH agency I worked for used to refer people all the time. They have classes here for teens, adults, and new parents. Just a thought....
