Not sure, but earlier I had a about 6 different Mozilla boxes pop open and each had like 25 tabs. The box was even just a little tiny square. Then I have this thing that says
THE APPLICATION FAILED TO INITIALIZE PROPERLY (0Xc0000142). CLICK ON OK TO TERMINATE THE APPLICATION. And this will not go away. And even now as I typed this I had three Help and Support screens pop open and I did not even touch my computer. I just rebooted my computer and instead of booting my BIOS Setup Utility page came up. I can not do anything to get out of it because I do not have a keyboard on this computer. Have not had one for my desk top for about two weeks. It has been that long since it has been on line. Only thing I have been doing with it is listening to music off of it. Can anybody explain what the heck is going on please. It was working just fine. |

Is that all it says as far as the error goes? Sounds like a virus but could also be failed memory.

Is that all it says as far as the error goes? Sounds like a virus but could also be failed memory. Yes that is all it says. I just got a working keyboard and was able to reboot it. And all is fine now. But still like to know what is going on. Be able to fix it before it gets worse. |

Get your memory tested, there is a program online that will do it but requires a CD burner or floppy drive with blank discs. Google memtest. |

Might be a virus or spyware. Go out and download something called "Spybot Search and Destroy" and "A-Squared Free", which are pretty decent anti-spyware programs (they're free, too). Also- make sure you've got an anti-virus scanner and firewall installed, too.
I recommend Avast! for your anti-virus needs as it's fast, accurate, and doesn't chew up a lot of memory when running in the background. Another good choice is Comodo Anti-Virus, which is also free. For firewalls, I recommend Comodo Firewall Pro. It can get a little annoying with the nag screens asking you what it should do with that copy of MS Paint that you just started up, but that's better than it not doing anything at all. |

When your computer is working, if you want it to continue to "just work" you might consider creating another user account that does not have administrator privileges. This will prevent you from being able to install software as that user, but if you do your normal activities using that account then when spyware, etc. tries to install itself it will fail. You can't install things, but it can't either! You'll be golden until your hard drive crashes and you lose everything. Cheers!
Good call on the Mozilla, by the way. |

Your computer is possessed with a very powerful Mozilla demon... call the priest for Excorcism.... use 3 gigabytes of Holy Water and 7 Hail Mary's... that'll fix anything Satan's horde throws your way...

The first thing you want to do is consider the last chages to your system (new installs, updates, or device - printers, USB, etc). If the error doesn't return after rebooting, you've found the prob. Check for a compatible version.
Or . . . See if one of these MS KB articles fit your situ: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824572 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/285910/ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/285910/ or, this forum : http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/217729-46-application-failed-initialize-properly-0xc0000142 You might also want to scan your system with your installed Virus, Malware app and/or an online scan like http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ Just re-read: If your Bios setup is coming up it likely needs you to correct an invalid entry there . . . If it's not specific as to what, look for something like Basic settings, Auto Setup, or something similar |
